Yeah, unlike Broad and Swann hs actually has the ability to build an innings. He's never actually been dismissed in the 36-89 range ever in test cricket. All his scores above 35 have ever been not out or 90's. Whereas Broad and Swann are much better for a quick 40 or whatever. He's probably not as naturally talented as them with the bat, but he has a somewhat solid technique and can make a decent amount of runs in an innings when he gets set.
Maybe, but if you look at the times Bresnan's made a score that statistic isn't quite so impressive: 90 against Bangladesh, and another 90 and an unbeaten 50 against India when the series was already won. Broad, otoh, has made scores against better attacks and in more challenging situations.

That being said, he's doing an important job this morning. And Cook & Flower agree with you, so I'm not going to push the point.

Broad's also had more chances. Look, against India he came in with a lead of about 280, on a track that was a bit up a down, and smoked 90. Yes it wasn't the best attack ever, but it wasn't that bad, and he still got more than Pietersen, Morgan and Prior. And his runs in Bangaldesh were pretty crucial too.

Hasn't been much wrong with the Aussie bowling this morning, Root and Bresnan just batting with really good patience. Bit of an arm-wrestle at the minute.

A couple of weeks ago we were saying how monumentally **** Broad has been with the bat for some time, he barely looked a number 10, so I have no problem with the order as it is tbh.

My abiding memory of that innings and time was him and Broad absolutely hammering Suresh Raina into the Trent Bridge stands, so...

Yeah exactly; Bresnan bats like a really poor specialist batsman. He takes it very seriously, has the temperament to play a really big innings if he feels comfortable in his skin and makes it count once set. Broad and Swann bat like what they are; bowlers with significant batting talent.

Siddle especially. He might have a face like a bag of smashed crabs but he's a seriously good bowler.

My memory may exaggerated it but Broad used to look like an actual batsman at times.
