You have to wonder why his mental state was as it was during the home NZ series, the England (man)management or lack of it does make you wonder at times, KPs autobiography should be a great read if he spills the dirt once retired.
All just speculation.

True, but surely Compton had done enough in India and NZ to guarantee him a start at Trent Bridge, he must of been averaging at least 40 plus at that point...

It would of been a huge boost/weight off his shoulders if he had been backed publically or even privately at the start of the home NZ series, just seems like poor management to me in not doing so.

Yeah i read that. I still think he will be next cab off come what may. There is not really anyone else in contention atm.

Also i know its been said before but the Bairstow situation is really bloody poor planning. He should have been playing rather than carrying drinks around.
Have a feeling Bairstow will be Lyons bunny this series.

Bird showing why his method is cherry ripe for English conditions. Bowls a bad ball once a week and hits the seam on a good length consistently.

He likely won't play the first test, but he's a very handy addition to the squad.

Can't see that as likely although I would have just moved Compton down the order and left out Bairsow, he hasn't played enough FC this season to be holding the spot.

However if COmpton dyes his hair ginger and adopts a Geordie accent I think we can sneak him in a number #5 just so long as he answers to Paul from then on in.

Yeah Compton I've been pretty unconvinced by Compton, but he certainly deserves his shot more than Bairstow.

It would be stupid if he's not picked.

Hmm bit disappointing Harris didn't manage any, but from the radio at least it sounds as though he is a bit undercooked. The problem is even though Bird should be picked, the choice looks like it will be down to him and Starc (because surely Siddle and Pattinson are lock-ins now). And I'd be quite surprised if they picked Bird over golden-boy Starc.

Cummins definitely can top 150km/h. I much prefer it anyway when super-fast bowlers choose to operate most of the time at a gear below, and then when they feel like stepping it up they can, just like Steyn does. It allows for more focus on swing and control as opposed to raw pace for the sake of it which just isn't as effective.
Yep. You'd also think that if he can take test wickets regularly in the high 130s low 140s it will help him with his longevity. If he can perform in that range and gear it up when necessary that would make him a more dangeous and valuable bowler than say a B Lee or Shoaib who were basically flat out all the time. Lee in particular needed to be on song all the time. Whenever he dropped ks due to poor form or fitness he didn't look much of a bowler.

After umm-ing and ahh-ing for a while, I've decided that I would like to see Cowan bat at 3 in the first test.

Yes, he needs to convert his starts into big scores. From all reports though some of his dismissals in the tour matches have been pretty unlucky. The guy seemingly ALWAYS gets at least 30-odd; if we are sent in to bat early on a difficult wicket and lose Watson or Rogers early, I would trust him to get us through until lunch after which Clarke and friends can cash in. Having that support against an early collapse is going to be very important imo.
