Na I don't think it's absolute rubbish at all. It might be a slightly exaggerated, but Steyn and Philander are in a different league to Anderson and Broad imo...and I think, really, this series is a pretty good indication of that - i.e. two good batting line-ups to bowl to (SA's better, but England has home conditions), yet Philander and Steyn outperformed them considerably....you're not going to get much more of a direct comparison that this. Think Anderson did deserve better returns, and definitely more than Broad, who has better stats for the series...but, nevertheless, I think Anderson can just flatter to deceive a bit by producing some magic with the new ball but becoming a bit innocuous after that on occasions. Anderson is still a gun bowler though, and definitely the best England have to offer. Broad on the other hand just isn't nearly as good as some people have been making him out to be imo. It all sort-of spiralled out of control after one, admittedly, excellent series against India, but na, sorry, I'm not buying the hype yet...don't think he is any more likely to become a really top tier bowler than someone like Morkel or Siddle. Pretty good bowler, yeah, but nothing more than that at this stage.I have no problem admitting SA were the better side this series in all departments, but that is absolute rubbish.
Yeah look that's a good point for sure.I agree, but don't forget people that the bowler at the other end can have a large influence, and throughout the series broad bowled absolute poo, bresnan was unthreatening, as was swann.
Anderson I don't think bowled badly, wasn't amazing, but the saffers had the benefit of sustained pressure from 4 quicks bowling well and taking wickets.
Don't really subscribe to this one. I think the time for a regen phase has come, there is less to lose now, and you have got to blood the youngsters in the subcon. Why try and rebuild a young team with an ageing captain who's past his best? I think Cook's time has come, especially as he's already shown v.promising odi results. Look at the dramatic difference in oz test performance when Ponting finally handed over to Clarke. Eng can't really do any worse with youngsters than their old timers have done over there lately.. Plus don't forget Strauss averages 40, and has been well down in the 30's the last few years. While not terrible, it wouldn't be an irreplaceable loss by any means.I was 50/50 on Strauss going after last winter but now I don't think he can go in the short term. There are just too many problems in the rest of the team to get rid of the captain even if he is ****. Generally he bats well in India and if he can get past Zaheer he should do well.
Silly objective things like wickets don't count I presume thenHonestly, there's very little between them having watched alot of this series. Steyn is just quicker and can ping batsman, but as far as their accuracy and ability to seam/swing the ball - they're equal.
or Durban in particular.People keep talking about South Africa playing away here but the truth is they've always been excellent in England, foreign conditions or not. Its at home where they historically struggle
Am I missing something or in all the excitement did noone call troll on this guy, and thought he was for real despite the tendulkar-like post count.I expect England to win this one now. SA can't win this from here, it is either a loss for them or a Draw.
It's been discussed already, no need to bring it back up now.Am I missing something or in all the excitement did noone call troll on this guy, and thought he was for real despite the tendulkar-like post count.
