Nah, won't happen. The series is too short. If we lost 5-0 or something then i could see it happening but he's built up too much credit for one home series loss to force him out.
Not exactly any old home series though & his batting is as much a problem as anyone else's.

International Vice-Captain
re Strauss.

His batting isn't good enough these days realistically. If there was a decent alternative and he wasn't captain he should have been dropped by now

He invariably needs more than one life to make a hundred and just gives it away too often these days.

He's also a poor first slipper now.

He's not great tactically

England's winter results were poor against a decent Pakistan and average Sri Lanka. We played badly against WI this summer and should we lose to SA that's 4 average or worse test series in the last 4.

but

there is no decent alternative. We have no number 6 at present so to get rid of Strauss would open up two spots in the top 6 which would be a disaster. Root is the best long term bet but although he's shown good stuff already he's still improving and it might do his development more bad than good by putting him in an england team so early. But like Cook you get the feeling when he does get selected he'll probably crack it first time.

The england team love and are protective of Strauss. There is just a massive respect of Strauss and the bloke that he is. They see him as their leader.

Were Strauss to go Ali Cook would be the obvious candidate but both KP and Swann have questioned and put down Cook's captaincy. How would KP react to having Cook as captain - KP has already quit ODI cricket with Cook as captain.

gotta think of the future tours. India is next up and that is a tough old tour especially as captain, so safer to leave Strauss in control. Strauss has also batted well in India.

He can like it or lump it frankly. It looks like he's already becoming a disruptive influence - will he even accept a central contract this autumn?

Can't see why he'd get one if he won't unretire from the limited overs.

Don't get me wrong he can still play the big innings but not necessarily the important ones.

Anyone who is a walk-up starter for the Test side should get a central contract, no questions asked. To suggest otherwise is ridiculous IMO. Obviously his retirement from limited overs cricket should factor into how much that contract is worth but to have a cemented Test player not contracted would be absurd.

He did back in 2011. Rammed it down our throats too.

Haven't heard him say it in a while though so not sure if he has changed his mind with Karmichael Hunt's awesome improvement.

Karmichael was always more likely to make it than Folau IMO, which is why I found that post interesting.
