Kapil Dev is through very easily and he will bat at 7. Lloyd, Pietersen and Faulkner were all tied on two votes. I'm sitting on the fence on this one, so lets so who wins in a straight shoot out between the trio.

It's interesting that nobody except me voted for Inzamam. Has Pietersen already become a better batsman than Inzy? Inzamam vs Lloyd as batsmen is close I agree. But Pietersen is yet to catch them IMO. I shall personally take even the likes of Chanderpaul and Laxman ahead of Pietersen ATM. Of course, Pietersen can achieve a lot more in his career - but we should judge them on the basis of what they've done so far isn't it?

1. Faulkner - Kapil as a frontline bowler is not something that fills me with confidence in a World XI, so I think the side needs another genuine all-rounder. Faulkner averaged 40+ with the bat and a bit over 20 with the ball, fulfilling that criterion.
2. Barlow, Merchant - Barlow was a very, very good batsman in his day, averaging 45 in Tests, and is a useful bowling option as well. He can give the side greater flexibility, especially is a non-batting wicketkeeper is selected. Can operate as a 4th seamer. Merchant's FC record speaks for itself, and he's been unlucky to be passed over until this point.
3. Bedser, Hall - Bedser could move the ball better than any of his contemporaries, and was the only one who could truly say he challenged Bradman on a regular basis. Highly underrated, and taking his personal characteristics aside, a bloody good bowler. Hall was the spearhead and workhorse of the Windies attack of the 60s, and was a fantastic bowler in his own right.
4. Waite - Very, very good gloveman and solid batsman.

Great record for his time, over 20 years and retired at 40. I want this team to get enough runs on the board to bowl the others out, and I think that it needs the batsman. Toss-up between him and KP, but I'll take Clive.
Saeed Anwar
Quality left hand opening batsman, all the shots and especially severe square of the wicket.
Graeme Smith
Obviously has his technical deficiencies as a batsman, but his strength of character sees me rate him a bit higher than what I would on pure batting ability. Would thrive in playing against these teams and in adversity.
Brian Statham
Accurate, quick enough, and another strong character who got the job done with a minimum of fuss.
Ian Bishop
Very good record, could get the ball to move around at a very high pace, and had to endure a large number of injuries.
Jeff Dujon
Love a winner, and that's what the guy was used to doing throughout his career, and so often was part of a rearguard action that gave his team enough runs to bowl at.

I don't think that KP is better but the margin isn't so big. Inzy unfortunately had a torrid time against the strong Aus and SA attacks while Pietersen seems to flourish against stronger opponents which augurs well for KP in this kind of exercise.
Having said that, Ul Haq was tremendous on so many other occasions and is arguably the second best Pakistan batsman of all time so I would pick him before Pietersen, but I'm reluctant to pick players early when their standing in the game could still change.
Also, I hope today's first question doesn't end up being a tie again!

4) Ian Healy - I think its his time. Brilliant glovesman.
It's funny how far back Healy's standing in the game has gone since he retired. The combination of poor commentating and Adam Gilchrist haven't helped things, but I think if you reviewed Healy's batting more closely you would see a prolonged period where he averaged in the low 30s, its just he was inexperienced at the start of his career (I mean not many FC matches) and had a poor end.

Can I please change my vote for the wicketkeeper to Ian Healy. Really, there's no way in a one-on-one that I'd take Boucher ahead of him, with his keeping prowess.

Done. Dujon though right.
The plan was 16 teams. It's not getting boring yet is it? I thought that 16 would be good and we could run a simmed tournament in the same format as the Euro's.
I was thinking we just have 1 series matches in the group stages, 3 test series in the quarters and semi's and a 5 match series for the Final. I'm open to other suggestions though.
