Feel Dempsey is at his highest possible point right now, not sure going to Liverpool would do him much good.

Carrick rightlyfully came in for some criticism in the couple of seasons prior to this one, but he has been the best English midfielder this season. I'd have him, Lampard and Gerrard if it was a midfield three personally. As an aside, I don't get the Parker hype really. Good player, but nothing special and I have no idea why he won the FWA footballer of the year last year.

Depends how much credit Cole has in the bank, but Baines has been better than him for a couple of years now IMO. The right back options are all fairly dire and Walker may not be brilliant but he's the one I'd probably go for, though I doubt Richards is a much worse option if at all.

Don't rate Cahill at all, I'd probably have Terry and Lescott at the centre of defence.
No legs midfield there. Can’t take Lampard, think the through ball to Drogba on the weekend was the best and only thing aside from penalties he has done of any worth this season. Centre midfield is really weak mind, if you don’t want to take the established some might say proven failures, what you got?

Gone as a player, no longer got any athleticism, just dirt. If Obi Wan starts in front of you, you know your time is up.

Maxi got a nice little send off last night. Been a good solid pro for Liverpool. They need more of those types of players i.e. the Dempsey's of this world, proven players than all these one season wonders or never-beens.
Yeah, was going to say, when he's done this sort of thing previously he's been able to hide behind his ability as some sort of mitigation. Was a fantastic player in his prime, but he's just gone these days. Not a lot to like about him. Have to wonder why Mikel has played so much more than Romeu as well, on the odd time I saw him I thought he looked like a big improvement.

Wilshere will be a bigger miss for England than he has been for Arsenal this season I think. He's the one player I can think of who's not one of the tried and tested England plodders like Barry, Gerrard and Lampard who can offer something a big different. England sorely lack a player with any sort of vision and subtlety.

I'd be inclined to agree, but I think if I was him and the opportunity came up I would definitely take it. He's done basically all he's ever likely to at Fulham, and seems like the sort who would want to challenge himself at a higher level.

How that wasn't a straight red is beyond me. Has nothing going for it. Carroll's lucky it connected from behind so the muscle rather than the bone took the force. Bet he's got a helluva bruise today but better than a compound break.

I suppose because Essien was booked at the time there can be no retrospective action either.
Carroll's lucky he just got the start of his stride in - it would have been a nasty one if Essien has connected a split second earlier when Carroll's foot was planted.

I know you're not serious but I still feel compelled to point out that the first two goals that took Chelsea past Barca came from Lampard wonder-balls.

Carrick-Parker-Lampard in the midfield for mine, but Barry over Parker would be fine too. I don't think Gerrard is worth a place in the starting XI. But even if he was, given his apparent fitness issues and tendency to do something spectacular at crucial moments, there's a good argument for keeping him as an impact sub.

Nah, for Gerrard and Lump, they were never good playing together when they could play, now I'd only suffer one of them because of a complete lack of options. Scholes said if Capello had come cap in hand to him, he'd have played. Which was a fairly piss-poor statement, IMHO, but I'd have him in the side now, ahead of those two.

Baines looked really poor against Holland, and cashley was immense against Barca. I'd have agreed with you before that.

That's where I was coming from. Plus he had a decent semifinal against Spurs. He just seems to be in a very decent run of form in the matches that count. He might make me look very silly in a couple of months time, but sometimes you just have to go with the flow, I think.

I know I wrote Parker-Lampard-Barry, but I don't really have a strong argument against Carrick. I suppose I'd prefer Barry on the left of a threesome simply because he's left-footed, but I know it isn't essential.

Tbh if I didn't know their respective results I'd have said Essien's was more dangerous.
Bollox, honestly, he's gone for the knee, it's pure thuggery, from a man that will be forever discredited by most football fans because of it.

Him and Souness birds of a feather, nasty pieces of work.

I didn't mean that as a defence, he even admitted it was an assault himself. I just mean I'd have thought the two-footed jump onto the back of the leg would have had more chance of injury than Keane's fly-kick to the knee.
