Hmm two horrendously slow strikers is pretty easy to defend against. I'd sooner just go with one striker and it'd have to be Carroll. Then the rest of the team fits into a Chelsea-style system quite nicely. If it works, great and if it doesn't you can go to Rooney-Welbeck after the first two games.

Unlike Brumby, I think Welbeck should be going. Purely because Bent is injured. With no Rooney for the first two games, need something different to Carroll/Crouch, just as an option. Whilst he's not been world class, he's chipped in with a few goals, set up a few more, and tends to get himself into some decent positions. His pace might be able to unlock a tired defence late on in a game.


Suppose Theo can do the same, and he's had a better season than most give him credit for mind....

I'm not sure whether I rate Welbeck higher than everyone else or everyone else isn't realising how **** all of England/United's other options up front are.
