Not really. Unlike Gary Ballance and S Ervine who've made it pretty clear they are vying for an England spot he hasn't really said anything about his international career.

But from what I've seen of him, he's a bit of a chucker and he might struggle to make any one of the counties in England. I guess we'll find out as time goes on...

Nah give Nethula another run. Was criticised here for not getting turn but he deserves another chance to show he's got some goods IMO.

Strangely, if you plot a graph of Thierry's enjoyment of Roneel Hira's game over a timeframe stretched over a good dozen years, the graph looks pretty much the same.

Yeah, it's a lot of bowlers. But that line-up will give Latham a run up the order a bit, and give a bit more responsibility with the bat to NcCullum and Bracewell etc.

It's not like 6-9 can't bat.

Well in a full-strength or World Cup situation you're definitely never going to run with Nathan McCullum at 6, no matter how many injuries you have, so I reckon it's a bit of a waste.

The way I see it is you've (for now anyway) blacklisted Ryder and Franklin. This means you effectively have no reserve batsman at full strength at the moment; so this is a good opporunity to give someone a chance to put their hand up for that role.

Would love to see Tom Latham be given a crack at opening. I think he'll end up there eventually so may as well give him a shot now.
Nicol is likely to fill the reserve batsman role over the coming years anyway so batting at 5 for a game would do him some good.

Well, that's the sort of thing I was thinking. It's a perfect opportunity to give whichever batsman is next in line an opportunity. With Ryder and Franklin blacklisted, who actually would make the squad right now as a reserve batsman if the team was in a full-strength situation like a World Cup? It's the time to start figuring that out; not the time to waste the opportunity and play six bowlers, some of whom inevitably won't really get a proper bowl anyway.

In a world cup situation Ryder and Franklin wouldn't be blacklisted. One of Dean Brownlie and Tom Latham would be the reserve batsman in a full-strength scenario and even if a new guy like Neesham was selected he wouldn't be ahead of Nicol, Guptill, McCullum, Williamson and Latham in the batting order. So it's much like the six bowlers situation where he wouldn't get much time in the middle.

The places for the next ODI that have been confirmed are:

Southee has been omitted.

Maybe because people only seem to care when the chucker actually gets an advantage from throwing it? ie it's an issue when a spinner can turn it more or both ways (Ajmal, Murali), or a quick bowler bowls genuine pace (Shoaib) but not when someone still just bowls 130ish like Ellis (and Mills for that matter).

Not saying that any of those guys mentioned do actually throw it btw, just more people were concerned with their actions
