I know it's only Zimbabwe etc, but Oram and Mills, still gun ODI bowlers
Yep, Oram proving once again why he's a must in our ODI side. Even putting his batting aside, he has the best bowling economy rate in the team without Vettori.

Batting order to be flexible from no.3 downwards
That's the team that would give us the best chance of beating South Africa personally. It's the Ryder scenario that's most likely the most questionable but you'd think the extra exposure he would get to Steyn etc would give him a better chance of suceeding if he were to be called into the test team.

Rob Nicol has earned his chance to play in the series but along with Guptill he's yet to prove he can consistently score against credible opposition.

You'd have to say Brendon McCullum is gradually becoming more and more in danger of losing his spot as well. Not in the near future or anything but in the last twelve months he's played five games against non-minnows and averaged just 10. In the last two years from nineteen games he's averaged just 19 with only one fifty. His brother has scored more runs at an easily higher average. If he wasn't keeping at the moment he probably would be in trouble.

Ellis has excelled in the batting department but leaves something to be desired in terms of his bowling and considering we have a surplus of bowlers who can bat with Jacob Oram, N Mac, Mills, Bracewell, Southee etc he should be one of the first to be replaced unfortunately.

For that seamer spot i'd still have Southee. He hasn't been overly impressive of late but he's been one of our best ODI bowlers in the last year or two.

I saw bits and pieces of this and the Zim. fielding and bowling is a disgrace.
For a side of their calibre with bat and ball, you'd think there would be a very big push to make this facet of their game capable. As NZ showed in the ODI arena in the 2000s, you can turn a good side into a very good side by being an outstanding fielding unit. Zimbabwe could go from dire to not completely dire if they did the same. There's no excuses, these guys are young, co-ordinated (I presume) and in shape. Yet they're awful. God awful to the point they wouldn't outfield a club side at 2nd grade level at times.

Dean Brownlie fractured a finger. He'll most likely miss the rest of the limited-overs games against Zimbabwe.

I don't understand it at all. I could have taken some of those catches. They should be practising their catching every day.

I drew a few graphs and have determined that on the criteria set out previously, Colin de Grandhomme should replace Brownlie.

Graph showing Thierry Henry's annoyance regarding CdG (y axis) over time.

Strangely, if you plot a graph of Thierry's enjoyment of Roneel Hira's game over a timeframe stretched over a good dozen years, the graph looks pretty much the same.

Wonder if they will bring Jesse in - who is the batting cover?
I can't see anyone other than Ryder making the starting eleven if they were to bring in a replacement. I don't see that happening personally. It's too early at this stage. They will probably just shift everyone up a place in the batting order and give Bates a debut or bring back Bracewell. With guys like Oram, Ellis etc batting well we don't really need an extra batsman. I'm hoping one of Nicol/Guptill moves down the order to give Williamson, Latham etc a better chance at putting up a big score aswell.

That's a lot of bowlers. This is definitely an opportunity to give another batsman a run IMO. Maybe CdG will get a run...

de Grandhomme the traitor! I really really hope he has a horrible career along with his partners in crime Sean Ervine, Gary Ballance, Anthony Ireland and James Cameron.
