England can beat India "every day of week": Gough

Nonetheless, the faith you have in your side Cevno is impressive.
Well, they still are a strong side at home. No matter what they are doing outside the SC...

Seem to be back in 90'S. (Though compared to then the away record is still better).

Put me at six, and I'd still take the Indian batting lineup over the English.

And lol@balldoingabit. This is not Boycott we're talking about - most batting lineups fold when there's proper swing. I'd back Sehwag and Gambhir to do as well as Cook and Strauss in England - in fact, I'd be willing to make a bet on it when the series rolls around. There are plenty of flat pitches in England too.
Did anyone dig this one yet?

Yeah their batting is definately better in the SC, but really I would think the vast superiority of England's pace attack would largely nullify any advantage they would gain there. Plus England has the best spinner in the world as well.

England's pace attack still has to be proven in India, and in anycase seamers play a different role which is certainly lesser in India than what they do in England. (More reverse dependent and sometimes even support role depending on the surface). Also, this lot of Indian seamers are better at home generally.

As for Swann, he is good but then Indians are better at playing spin too + no spinner has really troubled India throughout the series at Home for a long while.(Only really Saqlain maybe in one series is all i can remember.) And, Indian Spinners too are a different kettle of fish when the track is turning and biting, and they are playing the main lead rather than be the support cast.

Would probably be pretty close right now.

That's why, I said throughout the series. :p There has been the odd match where one spinner has done well in one innings and Murali did well in a few matches as a whole over few series IIRC.

Very rare any bowler does well in every game through a series so you are expecting a bit much there.

Such a good thread.

This time last year England fans were being arrogant and allowing beating the number 5 side to go to our heads.

That same number 5 side, who people said was one of the weakest Australian sides ever, is now thumping India.

Funny how things change in 12 months.

Not that rare(also depends on how you define well.), but in any case i didn't say that the bowler should have done well in every game. Rather what i meant was that, can't remember any spinner(barring except maybe Saqlain in a 2 test match series) doing well in terms of the combination of performances throughout the series. And that in turn could include maybe some matchwinning performances, and some decent ones(not poor).

Any one bowler could end up doing well in one innings over say 10 matches.Even Murali did well in india in about 1 or 2 matches over 3 series IIRC.(I.e a performance that has a real chance of largely influencing the result of the match.)

Yeah.....Saqlain was magical in that series.

Haven't seen any other spinner bowl so well against India in India

I think this thread shows how some Indian fans have been unfairly maligned. There are some very accurate predictions in here, even from those who usually back India to the hilt:

We will know the answer When India tour England after the World cup.
Top post, refreshingly fair

 English fans getting a bit ahead of themselves here. Will be sure to bump this thread next summer.
Did you mean the English fans would bump it? If so, kudos.

That's not entirely fair tbh. For one thing, Ponting has learnt to bat again and Clarke, well...

It also helps that we have bowlers who know how to bowl. Granted, half the attack is the same but the improvement in both those bowlers since has been staggering.

Still think the "Would Broad make the indian team" thread is the most amusing in hindsight.

Bit too much Broad-love from you these days, Spark. Save it for those of us who were actually in there defending him, eh? :p

But how much of Ponting/Clarke learning to bat again is down to them feasting on Ishant and Yadav as opposed to Jimmeh and Tremlett?
I think it's Uppercut who made the point a number of times but it's not just coincidence how many batsmen "lose form" and start getting out for **** all when presented with a really good, disciplined bowling attack.
