England can beat India "every day of week": Gough

That's not entirely fair tbh. For one thing, Ponting has learnt to bat again and Clarke, well...

It also helps that we have bowlers who know how to bowl. Granted, half the attack is the same but the improvement in both those bowlers since has been staggering.

Still think the "Would Broad make the indian team" thread is the most amusing in hindsight.
That's the point though.

I just found out that my anti-jinxing thread has been closed.......not before a lot of **** had flown my way though

On that topic though, there actually has been a sickening level of mutual respect between Australian and England fans over the last year or so.

It has to stop. It is nauseating.
Both countries secretly love each other, so it'll never happen :p

Has the England side played a good spin attack in the SC since they became awesome? Cook, Trott etc can leave good balls outside off all day and cash in later but have they been tested against quality spin since their turn around?

They've owned Ajmal, Harbhajan, Mishra, Mendis and Herath - admittedly all in England.

Does Mahmudullah count as "quality"?

There's no one remotely resembling a top-class spinner playing the game at the moment. Might as well say you'd like to see them tested against sea monsters.

Well seeing as Shakib is the best spinner from the SC and we beat them 2-0 then yes.

Honestly, the way people keep banging on about such an irrelevant point you'd think India played all of their home Tests on crumbling dustbowls with an attack of Kumble, Murali and Saqlain rather than the reality - that India's spinners would be flattered by being referred to as average and most Indian pitches tend to be utter roads.

The one time I've seen England play on anything remotely resembling a "dustbowl" in the last five years was at the World Cup, when they played South Africa in Chennai. And won. When was the last time India played a home Test on one? Three, four years ago?

~~

Don't think it's fair to say we did that great against the likes of Shakib and Ajmal, to be honest. Shakib we got the better of but he was the only bowler on his side giving us a game, as per. As for Ajmal, England really did struggle with him at times in the 2010 series and if he and Amir had better any support from their batsmen, it'd have been a close series.

Also worth pointing out that the one time in summer we got a turning pitch, Mishra got belted and Swann took 9 wickets.

England have a better all-round attack than both South Africa and India ? Yes. (if you use overall averages though, the difference isn't much between England's and India's. I am not a fan of averages, just bringing it up because you seem to set store by them).

India and South Africa have a better batting line-up than England ? Yes.

Lively pitches would go a long way in negating England's superior attack ? Yes.

England bowlers would struggle as much as the Indian bowlers on flat pitches ? Quite possibly, yes.
:D This was accurate.
