I watched them both just now and I think Cummins has a much more side-on bowling action. Also he makes much more use of his shoulders and there is a big rotation between his chest area and hips/legs (when he goes from side on to chest on during delivery). He also gets his left arm much higher on the follow through.Re: Cummins, the biggest problem I see with his action is his right arm coming through a bit past the vertical. Lee had the same thing at that age, though, and you can already see it happening a bit less so I'd say he'd work that particular bug out too. He really does slam on his front-foot, though. Will have to be managed well but he'll inevitably have leg injuries.
This is the post of the day.Why does cricket do this to me - by Doug Bracewell
I walked out
You caught me
You know I'm hurting for you
It seems now that it's over
But there is nothing I can do
I don't know
Why does cricket do this to me
I don't know
I don't know
Clarkie came, smashed away
Deep in the innings, I bowled him that day but
It seems I front foot no-balled
But I'm still thinking I got you out!
I don't know
Why does cricket do this to me
I don't know
I don't know
I bowled you
You know that
But when I see you sometimes
I'm cut up and I'm broken
There am I asking you how you're still in
Clarkie came, smashed away
Deep in the innings, he nicked on that day but
It seems Young dropped you
But I'm still thinking I got you out!
I don't know
Why does cricket do this to me
I don't know
I don't know
Yeah yeah yeah yeah....
Ugh. Need a rare day of NZ batting without the lemming mentality to make this a good game again. I can't see an extravagant collapse happening against NZ's attack - so 300+ required.Anyway off to bed, hopefully Australia don't manage 400 or thereabouts and the game is still a contest when I wake up in a few hours time.
It's hard to predict, I reckon. There are a few general principles which can lessen the chance of a career-ending injury but some ****s are strong enough to bowl with an action that would wreck someone else (Allan Donald, for example).I watched them both just now and I think Cummins has a much more side-on bowling action. Also he makes much more use of his shoulders and there is a big rotation between his chest area and hips/legs (when he goes from side on to chest on during delivery). He also gets his left arm much higher on the follow through.
Do you think this is a more efficient action because he uses more of his body where Lee's is a bit more rapid and sudden (where he generates his pace)? So he might get less injuries? Or am I completely wrong...
Go back to bed. A good game will be if NZ manage to get enough runs to allow ussie and punter to whack ton's to get into/get back into form and win the game.Ugh. Yeah competition is strong and young.Unrelated but, tell ya what, Pattinson/Cummins/Hazlewood/Lyon as a future attack, playing to potential, looks like it could be one hell of an attack. They're all still finding their way but geez.....
That was brilliant by Athlai - I must have missed that earlier. This is the post of the day.

I was tipping Dougeh to be the one to thwack a meaningless 50 when the game is already gone tbh. As he's nightwatchman now I guess Southee will have to do itDougeh is going to score 120* (80) tomorrow, dropped four times by Clarke along the way.
:dprobably.
I don't get your TumTum sig.Probably.
Yar, one of the spells he bowled to Clarke was really great bowling, and very unlucky not to get his man. Why is Bracewell's FC average so poor btw? Small sample size, or just because he is somewhat inconsistent? Whatever the case he has a lot of positives to work with, and looks to be a good find for NZ.If we want to be positive about things I'd say Bracewell really impressed today. It was only his second test match and to bounce back and bowl that well after the towelling he received early on and the multiple non-dismissals of Clarke showed a mindset that is suited for international cricket. Perhaps this is why the selectors opted for him over a couple of other hopefuls.
We're not dead and buried by any means, but if we go on to lose this test against what is essentially Australia A plus it's best middle order, it's a pretty sorry indictment of NZ cricket. On paper this side wipes the floor with the side we sent to England in 2008, but there has been very little improvement in terms of results. The issues are mostly mental too I bet-just a supreme lack of self belief when an opportunity presents itself. From Manchester 2008 to this series...just urgh. Then you read our usual media statements about "developing" and "doing everything well we can be competitive." Compare that to other sides who come out saying "We're here to win" etc etc. That was brilliant by Athlai - I must have missed that earlier.
This match is over as far as I'm concerned - wouldn't give us much more than a 1% chance of saving it. Based on performances from similar positions in previous matches I'd be surprised if we batted to tea tomorrow.

As for the negatives, I don't have the time or inclination to type all these out. It can be summed up disappointingly as 'same old stupid mistakes'. By contrast Australia did not give anything away with the bat - NZ needs its senior batsmen to learn from the way Ponting and Clarke asserted themselves on the game and fought relentlessly.
Started his career as a pretty terrible bowler apparently. Guys who saw him early on say he was bowling 120kph and not moving it a centimetre. If true, he's improved at lightning pace.Yar, one of the spells he bowled to Clarke was really great bowling, and very unlucky not to get his man. Why is Bracewell's FC average so poor btw? Why do you think this is a series you should not lose? Away from home against a team that's better than New Zealand...We're not dead and buried by any means, but if we go on to lose this test against what is essentially Australia A plus it's best middle order, it's a pretty sorry indictment of NZ cricket. South Africa are hard done by with their choker tag in recent years. This is a series we should not lose, but Australia have a very good chance. If we weren't portrayed as a bunch of club cricketers in the media, the choker tag would belong to us. We're essentially Bangladesh in terms of mentality. "What is this, an actual opportunity? Oh my God what do I do?!?!"
New Zealand make it extremely hard to remain optimistic. If we can't win in Australia against this side, we need the second coming of Hadlee to have a chance. I expected the four man attack to struggle, but 96/5, and that fielding....FMD.
No doubt I'll be back to my optimisitc one eyed best tomorrow, but atm I've got the Bahnz.
I wouldnt say that Australia are "better" on paper but Ponting is an ATG and the young guys have real talent so all it takes is for them to stand upWhy do you think this is a series you should not lose? Away from home against a team that's better than New Zealand...
