Hopefully that's the last of Dernbach, he's got gradually worse and worse since he's come in and tbh I like the guy and hate to say it but Bresnan is not a One day bowler, he has just too many poor days and doesn't take enough wickets.

And yeah, we are playing India in India in ODIs. Never expected us to do particularly well.
Well, yes. And all while we're missing our best ODI batsman and best ODI seamer.

But it's irritating because I think we gave it away today, and there seems to be two obvious wankers problems that could be quite easily be dropped taken out.

I expected us to lose this series, I didn't expect us to make it so easy.

I've always though he was a better Test than ODI bowler, but I've backed him in one-dayers since he impressed me so much during the World Cup. It's easy to forget that there really isn't a seamer to replace him that has put in those kind of international performances before - the only one I can think of would be Chris Tremlett, and that's a lot more of a cross-format gamble.

I think he's worth perservering with for now, especially considering how his batting has been valuable lately, and that he'd still be part of the Test and T20 sides.

Edit: Of course, now that we've lost the series, we've little to lose, so it doesn't really matter. I mean persevering with over the next couple of ODI series.

The trouble is that I find it hard to pinpoint specific continual problems with our team (other than Dernbach, obvz). It seems to be different factors in each of the last three games - someone having a particularly bad day, bit of sloppiness in the field here and there, doing something wrong at a crucial moment. I don't think our team could be made that much better through changes (Dernbach excepted) but there are certain things we could be doing better on the field. What those things are seems to vary in every game, even when we are winning.

So it turns out that Keiswetter and Dernbach are complete duds - who'd have thought it, eh?

The most worrying thing about this tour is that we seem to have actually gone backwards since we were thrashed there in 2008/09, especially when you consider how many key players India are missing. Didn't think it was possible, but there you go.

I think the problem is that Bresnan is no more than ok at ODI level, his biggest failing IMO is that he's rarely economical, which he can get away with to an extent if he takes wickets - problem is that doesn't really happen often enough either. He's not good enough to lead the attack when Broad and Anderson aren't there. I think he's just about good enough to be the third quick (particularly when you factor in his ability with the bat) but at the moment he's no better than that.

This series has brutally exposed the lack of quality OD quicks we've got. I like Dernbach, I think he's got a big role to play in the side but he needs a break from the side and also needs to develop a stock ball which he can bowl his variations around. I like the fact that he has a lot of variations and I like the fact that he's not scared to try them - what I'm not liking is the results, which at the moment aren't good enough. For a guy who can hit 90mph, his biggest failing is that he doesn't show it enough. If I hadn't seen his excellent yorker to get rid of Kevin O'Brien against Ireland I'd struggle to believe that he was capable of bowling like that if someone mentioned it. He's also at an awkward stage of his development where he's too good for domestic cricket but not quite there at international level - simply sending him back to Surrey doesn't really achieve anything given his dominance of batsmen in this year's CB40.

You also need to consider that we're touring without Broad, Anderson and Morgan, have a rookie captain and we're blooding youngsters like Bairstow. We were atrocious in 2008, we got gubbed in every game. I don't really recall any positives from the last tour; at least this time Patel and Finn have had decent tours and Pietersen may yet be getting back into form in the 50 over game. We can afford to take a long term view with this series.

Pretty good win!!

Dhoni is just awesome in ODI's. Stayed calm even though some of the others had made it more difficult than it should have been after the early middle overs.

Guy's just a machine in ODIs isn't he? I swear there was a period 2-3 years ago when it seemed like every ODI scorecard or report had him not out at the end when India had successfully chased.

I think opening the batting is the only thing I haven't seen him do well - I've seen him successfully promote himself up the order on flatties and smash the bowling around, batter the bowling at the death, consolidate when things have gone wrong early (but still been good enough to up the tempo at the right time) and calmly guide the team home in tense chases. I always regard Mike Hussey as my ideal limited overs batsman, but Dhoni can do everything he can do.

I hate his technique but he's just so ruthlessly brilliant at every aspect of ODI batting.

Spot on.

Expect to lose but okay if they learn from it and improve. Disappointed at some of the fielding - no excuse for that.
Yeah, that's been the worst aspect of it - the fielding, and the frustration that'sbeen shown at times when things are going wrong.

Nice series win that. Really hope we can push on for a 5-0. Rahane has been impressive again and Dhoni has been sensational in ODIs recently. Jadeja has also improved quite a bit in his second coming.

Kieswetter committed some amateurish mistakes at crucial intervals of the match. Dropping Kohli can be categorised as a mistake but the Jadeja missed was unforgivable for a specialist keeper

I caught a few snippets of this game and England still remain so ****ing pathetic at 50 over cricket! Good to know you have variations Dernbach, but a ball or SIX in the basic slog over corridor wouldn't harm much I'd think. Fancy flickovers the top of your needle don't always help that much i reckon

Another disappinting result, with 298 on the board thought this could be our day. Not to be. Dernbach went to pieces towards the end, wide, no-balls, and very few deliveries right in the blockhole, actually none of them seemed able to really execute the main one-day skills towards the end (maybe throughout the 50 overs but I didn't see all of it).

My worry is our wicket-taking ability in those middle overs. We've always struggle to penetrate in this period, especially on the sub-continent. The Indians play the spinners well, and we don't yet seem to have that bowler that can get us a wicket when we most need it.

Haven't seen Kieswetter's dropped catches, but his standing on the stumps at that stage of the game was a real kick in the ribs. It was a simple mis-judgement that can happen when you take the ball in front of the stumps, a technique that may have been proven to be slightly quicker, but not one I've completely bought into yet.

Still, agree that this isn't a crucial series and more can be achieved in these next couple of games by having a look at Borthwick and Meaker, in terms of ODI's in the future, along with Bairstow, let's get some games into these guys.
