When was the last time you watched Steyn? Because anytime I was watching him against India he was firmly in the 83-85mph zone.
are you saying he has lost the ability to bowl fast? thats a stretch?

if he can consciously change his pace to suit the situation - which is what you are saying - then you are saying that he has flexibility and skill.

and since anderson cant even touch steyns top pace then steyn has more variety, more ability and therefore a more useful bowler.

look, engage your brain a bit.

if you are using andersons stats as testament to his ability then you are basically being blind to reality.

anderson has picked up 43 wickets against pakistan and india over the past year, at home in overcast conditions when both teams were in utter utter disarray, in others words it was rather easy for him.

well done and all that for cleaning up, but its hardly anything "special", india and pakistan might sound like decent enough teams to show off, reality is they played worse than bangladesh, just be honest ok and acknowledge it as such, thats all i ask.
I see you've ignored his performance in Australia again.

No, I'm saying he doesn't bowl fast. Because he'll get much more movement when he bowls at 85mph. You are correct, this shows that Steyn has a good thinking head on him. However, in Tests it's a myth to suggest that Steyn is a faster bowler than Anderson.

You're not becoming any more persuasive.

As I've said in this thread, and as per my vote in the poll, I rate Steyn above Anderson.

All I would suggest, with the greatest respect, is that when someone posts an intelligent and well-reasoned argument such as GF's, you might think about responding constructively rather than with sneering and patronising drivel.

he needs to show some real balls and REAL ability to reverse swing, guys like waqar, wasim and steyn can inflict damage in tough conditions because they had more pace, more skill and bigger hearts than jimmykins.

numbers wont tell the whole story.

he might get lucky and benefit from a pakistan implosion, a good chance of cheap wickets, does that mean he is good? ofcourse not.
Dire trolling.

I see you've ignored his performance in Australia again.
and you are ignoring the 40+ plus wickets he took against minnow-esque teams.

decent stats against aus, some good performances, i am not saying he is a bad bowler, i know he has improved, although from a low base it has to be said.

plus australia are not the benchmark they used to be, but nothing to be scoffed at i agree.

but you cant compare him to steyn, anderson has some serious limitations.

India are minnow-esque now. :D

Yes lets take out those wickets against India, Australia, Sl and Pakistan, **** there's not going to be many teams to get wickets against..

Might as well take out everyone except South Africa.

And I'm pretty sure Steyn has no test wickets against them.

why is your vote relevant if i am not referring to you?

anyway, GF insists on sticking anderson in the same ballpark as steyn, as a result he requires some correction. i have corrected the basis of his "beliefs", i hope he is honest enough to adjust his opinion on the relevance of andersons stats based on the easy matches he has had

Not when your definition of "easy" includes a 5 Test series in Australia and a 4 Test at home to the former number 1 Test side.

Of course, the fact that both batting lineups were woeful couldn't have had anything to do with the standard of bowling they faced, could it?

in tough dry conditions - which is what i was referring to - reverse swing is usually your best weapon as a pace bowler, please read a bit more attentively :)
Yes and I bet that's why Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis have the best record of all time in England. Oh wait....

Nice trolling.

Now GF your just taking the piss, of course the constant low scores were all down to the batsmen, absolutely nothing to do with the bowlers what so ever.

Twisting my words is a sure sign that you don't have a retort.

I never said India are minnows, but they sure played like minnows, Pakistan too, we all know what state they were in, therefore the quality of opposition was something extremely low, nothing controversial, just simple facts that force you to reconsider your love in for jimmy, are you honest enough to do it?

Steyn was actually majestic against a strong India in India, a totally different proposition.

You are comparing apples with oranges, or an atg vs an ok bowler.

And maybe the bowling they had to face could have played some role in the fact that they "played like minnows"?

I mean an Indian side with Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman available fulltime and with Sehwag's and Gambhir's services in a few tests could not muster up 300 even once in the test series. Don't you think the quality of the opposition bowling attack had something to do with it?

Seriously, if you want to have a proper debate about cricket, have that debate constructively. I'm sure you may have something useful to contribute. If not, then you might want to try somewhere of a slightly different nature such as the comments section of YouTube

an honesty failure??

sehwag was totally undercooked, but i dont think he would have done much anyway.

gambhir was injured.

tendulkar although in the form of his life lost it a bit here, he also got an injury lets not forget.

raina hopeless against the short ball.

so really england had to work for two wickets - laxman (who is past his best anyway) and dravid.

now add the easy home conditions and englands competency in exploiting it.

not really remotely as tough as you are making it out, no.1 status or not, like i said, show some integrity and honesty pls.
