*Official* Second Test at Trent Bridge

Lawton was the only member of the Independent's cricket writing staff to back the Indians beforehand & I think there's been an element of the jilted lover about his writing on the series so far.
I didn't know that tbf: the first test must have been a real problem to his customary view that English cricket is always crap even when it isn't.

I'm really not a fan of his writing - self appointed moral guardians just don't do it for me.

He spends an article praising his bowling on the day, and that's the line that you pick out? Intellectual dishonesty.

Not sure what the reaction was like here, but I had a right chuckle when it all went down.
I dunno whether you missed it.. but there was a compromising article for all the "lavish" praises on him... for me that reeks of intellectual dishonesty than anything... Bumble falling prey to please everyone shocker there...

Again, I DID NOT condemn the entire article. I believe it is within my prerogative to point out the flaws in an article I thought were

Really? In my experience, give some fodder for them to work with and they'll boo you 'til the cows come home. Especially away from Lord's.
Probably booed because last time he was here he was having a bit of banter with the crowd near the Radcliffe Road end, threw a paddy started shouting to the crowd near where I was sat and then the next time he went to bowl bowled a beamer at Pietersen.

I know I was there. Got ribbed and booed the whole day after that.

Edit: Quoted the wrong person, too lazy to change it.

Whatever it takes!!!
India are in the box seat here. It's disingenuous to claim otherwise. Current odds have India at 20/21 (1.95) & England at 33/19 (2.74).

I think if Laxman and Dravid can take their stand past 50 and the shine off the ball India could well be looking at a substantial lead, especially if the sun burns off the cloud cover.

Also reckon this could be the ideal situation for Harbhajan, Dhoni or Yuvraj to shine; Broad and Swann showed attack is maybe the best form of defence for the lower middle order so if one hangs around for a while they might well take the game away from us.
I am not sure if you meant it or not but there is just something really really funny when Yuvraj is grouped with lower order players like Dhoni and Harbhajan.. And he is supposed to be our #6... God help us.

Yeah pretty much the same round here.

I just meant that India's 6-7-8 are swashbucklers rather than grafters.

Anyway, bright sunshine now. Best batting conditions for the game now, surely?

yeah but I think they are more "hopeless in test match batting" than swashbucklers.. Now Sehwag, HE is a swashbuckler.. :(

Should be, although Broad reckoned that Trent Bridge doesn't depend on cloud cover for swing in the same way that Lord's does.
Trent Bridge has swung consistantly, cloud or no cloud, since the new end was built a few years ago. Obviously would do more if the cloud was over though.

No, he pointed out that for as well as Sreesanth bowled yesterday, he still has the propensity to do things that make you shake your head. Not a Bumble fan but there's nothing wrong with that article, and you're jumping at ghosts.

Judging by the Australian series, I think that the England attack is far more dangerous when it's only going a little bit, half a bat width, more likely to draw the player into the shot. When it's going big for them, they have to bowl half-volleys to make the batsman go hard enough to nick it.

If Jimmy and Broad get it right, their battle in these conditions with Dravid, Laxman and, hopefully, SRT should be a highlight of the summer. I'm having to pop out - unless England shift at least two of those before lunch, we're looking at a huge first innings deficit. Anyway, enjoy.

Big first session, if Dravid and Laxman get themselves set, then India should back themselves in for a lead well over 100. I have a feeling that one of the big three has themselves ready for something big. More worrying than the swing for India would be the inconsistent bounce that has been about, and it's why I think India would want a lead of over 100 minimum, otherwise it could end up being quite a tricky chase.

Although, India have been very good in fourth innings chases recently, so it's really set for a big Test match.
