Good win by England, well played to them. Expecting India to come back strong in the next game though.

Pizzling.

And a good thing that Strauss, unlike many of his team's supporters, knows the value in a well timed declaration.

Well that was a thrashing if there was any. Well played England. Do not believe though that India will just roll over and die. Most probably they would just end up winning where they are expected to lose heavily. Zaheer should not be selected if there is even a doubt he can't last the game, totally screwed up the India bowling.

Also what was Laxman doing in the first innings lobbing the ball to deep fine leg. A total crap shot that. Started the slide from a reasonable position.

Yeah, found some of the criticisms baffling myself. Some short memories on CW it seems. Strauss has learned from his tardy closures on our 08/09 Windies tour (& maybe from Punter's dallying at Cardiff just afterwards), but the inherent English small "c" conservativeness was rather betrayed by some of the moaning from the cheap seats.

196 run win suggests we probably had enough to me.

It was a small thing - certainly not justifying an entire rant to itself - but i found it unnecessary to interrupt KP's biffing late on day 2. I don't think it's any more conservative to chance your arm with bat or ball, and I think it cost us more runs than gained us time. But like I said, a small thing. If we'd held our catches (and where has that come from, incidentally?) we'd have snagged them for less than 200, and that'd done just as well as an extra 30 or so from Kevin.

I believe you should be as graceful as you'd expect your opponents to be.

With that in mind

We are the ENGLAND, the MIGHTY MIGHTY ENGLAND

All the non-given plumb lbws in the world couldn't stop us. One ****ing nil!
You're still a pack of soap dodgers mate. Always remember that.

There's no seat cheaper than mine in that respect. I'm not a great believer in dashing first innings declarations unless there's a special need for it. As it turns out, my misgivings were misplaced, although I suppose if we'd batted longer we might've made them follow on and won that much more easily.

Yes it was and tbh the old poop shoot would have got even twitchier this afternoon, if we'd have batted for another 15 to 20 overs or so.

I was really thinking of the almighty fuss made by a scrabble playing denizen of County Durham, who seemed to return to these fair shores just to say Strauss had made the worst tactical decision since The Charge of The Light Brigade.

I think it was Benchy, possibly following Sun Tzu's maxim from The Art of War which I know he has memorised, who said that doing what your opponent wants least is often the best course of action and I thought and still think facing those potentially ticklish half dozen overs on Friday would be somehwere down there for the openers after a hard day in the field.

Normally I am not a fan of early declarations but in this case it was very well timed, and I said so in this thread. 9/10 it is better to only bat once and try and win by an innings but this time everything just seemed right. Time had been lost in the Test, there was an awkward period for India to bat before the close and we didnt want to bat on through the worst and risk declaring when the track could possibly have flattened out. 1st Test in the series and you would like to get a tilt at the opposition relatively early.

Hopefully India start this series better for a change than what they have done in the first test in the recent past.

Edit- First Post.:)

Lords is exactly the kind of pitch that is a slight weak point with us.
.

Worried about the Lords test the most.

Not only we start poorly in recent times ,we also have a poor record there IIRC

Actually am not that worried about Trent Bridge though .Indian bowlers should do well there.
Said this before the start of the match and sticking by it,Spot on till now.

Expected us too struggle in this test most but the Zaheer's injury so soon(in the middle of a terrific spelL) added by Sachin and Gambhir's problems screwed us up even further.

Still, Well played to England and a big win.
