*Official* First Test at Lord's

Perfect day for us i reckon, bowled them out and know we can bat them out of the game in the first 2 sessions tomorrow and have a charge at victory on the last day.

Only question is how many overs do we go for as I think against this attack we could milk the runs easily to get to 450ish in front just after tea tomorrow.
Even without Sehwag, India's 400+ run-chase 3 years ago will play on Strauss's mind, especially as Lord's really doesn't deteriorate a lot even by Day 5. I reckon he'll want to set 500 by 5.00pm tomorrow.

If they can manage to bat at 4 rpo for 70 overs or so, 280 on top of the lead currently,
would be a very good position to be in, would put them around 470 ahead, with plenty of overs to have a crack at them.

I think that sounds about right. It was the sort of chase that leaves a scar.

Obviously we don't want to be counting any chickens; India could bowl us out, of course. I'd hope we'll be able to dictate the terms of the chase tho.

Aggers isnt optimistic regarding an aggressive declaration:

BBC Sport - Jonathan Agnew column

Personally got a feeling he may just surprise a few people.

If Zaheer doesn't bowl I'd expect to see more of Dhoni tomorrow in the second hour, I imagine England will go after him, though like Pietersen said, no one wants to get out to Dhoni lol. Wouldn't be surprised to see some 8/1 fields and a wide line from Dhoni either.

there's man called laxman who's bound to step up in this sort of situation, so I reckon england need to give themselves 120 overs.

edit 120 overs = declaring an hour after tea

At the end of the day, India are number one for reason.

That reason being that the rankings haven't caught up with cricket's new world order just yet.

Move over ****ers. It's our time now.

Just saw a stat on cricinfo; only 1 of dravid's previous 32 hundreds has come in defeat. WAG.
I never know what to make of this kind of stat. Seems virtually meaningless really. If I could guarantee that my team's number 3 batsman was going to make at least one century in every Test, and if, apart from him, my team had a pretty stron batting line up, I wouldn't expect my team to lose many matches at all. Particularly if the number 3 batsman in question tends to spend a lot of time in scoring his centuries.

Dunno if they can bat fast and get 230ish more, they can still declare with almost four sessions left. Yes India chased down 400+ but you can't really expect it to happen all the time, and definitely not in an away game.

yeah especially when theres no sehwag.

plus dravid will ensure that india don't win by taking up tons of deliveries

england should back their attack. if india cant get 300 on day 3. they surely wont get 450 on day 4/5.

bat for 70-75 overs at 3.5 runs/over to get 250ish.

Got to factor in rain too, when declaring.
Lol it doesn't ALWAYS rain...forecast looks good. India will have to bat a lot of overs, rain won't save them, bad light won't save them, but it is easier to bat under blue skies...

Watched Tendulkar bat until lunch - from what little I saw, he seemed in reasonable nick, I wouldn't have guessed that he hadn't played any competitive cricket for 2 months. He seemed mentally refreshed too, as if his break had done him good, so I hope to see him ton up in this series.

He batted well and it took a great nut and a very decent snaffle to remove him, but he did look to me as if he was a little rounder than he was back at the world cup.

Never been in any danger of being mistaken for an anorexic, but possibly the chubbiest he's been.

He looked really good. But I knew he'd get out the moment he started fussing over the sightscreen and getting annoyed about it. He lost his concentration and drove at the ball without getting to the pitch. If he'd just gotten past a couple of Broad overs, he'd have been on that honours board now.

he looked quite nervous before lunch imo

reckon he needs to face ishant in the nets to sort out his defensive technique against the tall bowlers because he seemd a bit uncomfortable facing tremlett, who BTW was mainly responsible for tendulkar's dismissal as he had dried up his runs.

Sachin every now and then poked at balls outside off-stump from tremlett instead of leaving them. Moreover the back-foot defensive shot at times didn't look very convincing against him either.

looked good for about 40 mins right after lunch though.

I was surprised that tremelett wasn't bowling any bouncers at him.

Well, he played and missed a few times because England were bowling well but he still looked to score and seemed relaxed about the fact that the bowlers were on top; he seemed mentally up for it despite his long layoff from serious cricket. Also, I'm not sure about bowling short at Tendulkar, sure he can fend a few (not out of fear but out of looking to score on the leg side with that hop glance of his and letting the ball get big on him) but I don't think that a weakness. He scores a lot off that stroke too.
