English Domestic Season 2011

Think it was highest 89.6ish, about an average of 86.
That doesn't sound too unfeasible if he was looking visibly quick. With all this biomechanics and fitness training, 90mph isn't the unattainable goal it once was - at least, it isn't in England.

Samit's looking much leaner
Yeah, visibly more svelte than he was at the arse end of 2010. He looked in pretty decent touch in the last few overs of today I saw too.

Let's all hope Sammy's finally seen the light. It'd be a tragedy for such a fluent stroke maker who's bordering on the batting all-rounder status now to miss out on a serious international career because of his refuelling issues.

It's a cliche now, but televised runs do count double, so he's done his chances no harm today.

Pietersen gone for Surrey for 30, removed by Zafar Ansari in his first over, who is unsurprisingly described a slow left arm orthodox bowler. What a turn up.
Lol. He's on Surrey's books too, so you'd imagine KP at least seen him in the nets at some point.

Still he's an Under 19 cap and KP was but a fifth of a Michelle for him today, so he's obviously no mug.

Anyon, looking quite nippy, obviously the speed-gun is nonsense, but he cleaned up Stuey there. Notts rather crumbling.
Saw it on the highlights at COP; got some serious tail back into the cack-hander. Swinging the ball at pace never a bad thing.

Funny old decision by Sussex to enforce the follow-on, which I imagine we may now be regretting slightly. Looks a better effort by Notts second time round. Given that the pitch was taking a bit of turn on Day 1, I'm not sure I'd want us to be chasing a target in the 4th innings against Swann and Fatel.

Didn't think I'd see the day where Monty out-bowls Swann but he is looking pretty good with 3/11 in the first innings and 2/25 in the second - he has kept things tremendously tight too.

Quite staggering the strength Northans have in their batting in the mid-lower order this season in terms of performances to date. Andrew Hall, Niall O'Brien and James Middlebrook (numbers 6,7 & 8) all average in the 90's at this moment in time. Imagine if David Sales recovers from this lengthy form slump aswell.

Don't think Swanny bowled too badly at all for an off-spinner on a first day pitch with not much happening off the deck. There has been slightly more assistance from day two onwards, and if Notts bat well there is a chance Swann will have the opportunity to make a real impact on the last day.

As for Panesar, he has bowled very well, given little away and kept the pressure on. Got the odd one to really grip, seems to be putting plenty of revs on the ball and is varying his speeds nicely.

A counter-attacking innings from Notts skipper Chris Read has just ended with a poor pull shot skying it back to the reluctant recipient of the catch, the wicket-taker Amjad Khan. Notts have a lead of just 60 but are now five wickets (effectively six down with Neil Edwards having broken his wrist).

Steven Mullaney off the mark with a pull shot full of authority for six.

Hope Notts can get add a further hundred runs or so to give this contest the potential for a gripping finale.

Pretty much set up for Notts to skittle Sussex cheaply in the second innings, they have the bowling for it. Deja vu from the Yorkshire game. Sussex wouldn't be happy chasing over 170, maybe 150 on this pitch against Broad, Adams, Swann etc.

Yes it would be a difficult chase against the Notts attack. Problem being Notts really need to find another 50 runs at least after lunch. Broad's dismissal was disappointing because he was playing in a positive fashion and with some success, I cannot imagine Andre Adams will be any less positive though.

Hope Notts find a few runs in the afternoon session and really set this game up. Doesn't look like it's going to go too far into day four either way.

Andre Adams smacking it about!

Great little knock this is!
Superb effort really giving Notts the momentum in this game, he's unsettling both Amjad and Rana with the new ball, and is giving Notts a real chance here. A belligerent half-century that is still going, as is Notts' lead, which is now over 150!

Watching Broad's first 5 overs and I don't know whether he's up to full fitness or what, but he's bowling around 78-80mph, which is well down on pace for him.

Surely the definition of 'match-fitness' is how well a bowler returns in second and third spells. I'm sure it'll come with a few more matches.

Luke Wells looks a player!

Played a few lovely drives, using his feet well to the spinners and hit Swann for a big six!
Yeah. Not much in the way of foot movement, but times it beautifully. At the crease he looks more like a slender Tres than his old man. Made Broad look pretty ordinary in the little passage I saw.

Plays with intent too, which is nice to see.

So KP isn't enjoying his first match captaining Surrey. over 200 behind and they lose two wickets in the first over. Looking to hold off an innings defeat tomorrow against the students.
