English Domestic Season 2011

Looking at the Samit of last year and this year you can clearly see the difference.

Cant see his **** no more!

He does look slightly less circular. Apparently he has got himself much fitter than he was last season. Bowling very nicely today, got Wells with a beauty.

Essex battled through to make 179 all out yesterday against Derby, thanks in the main to a 109-run partnership between James Foster and Matt Walker to demonstrate what can be achieved with some application.

David Masters have given us a sniff of staying in the contest with the wickets of Chesney Hughes and Usman Khawaja. Need plenty more early breakthroughs though to get us into any sort of position, and for Lonwabo Tsotsobe to turn up and perform.

Somerset had everything their way after being inserted. Trescothick back to somewhere near his best after a scratchy start to the season, and Nick Compton registered what I think is his maiden first-class century for Somerset. Graham Onion picked up a couple of wickets in an otherwise long, tough day for the visitors.

Not too sure why Darren Stevens was batting at number eight for Kent, and his 66 helped them to a batting bonus point, but in bowled out for 242 they handed the initiative in this game to Glamorgan. Three wickets for Dean Cosker takes his CC total to 21, while Will Owen also took three wickets in his first CC appearance of the season.

Swanneh a night watchman or a number 3? Pretty deep batting line up with Read at 8, Broad at 9 and Adams at 10
It is a deep batting line-up isn't it ? Having bowled Sussex out for 304, a score that looks to be under-par in the first innings on this pitch, they have a real opportunity to grab control of this game. Rana Naved, Amjad Khan, James Anyon, Luke Wright, Mike Yardy and Monty Panesar will have to be bang on target today.

Notts find themselves in a degree of trouble here at 46-4. There is still plenty of batting to come, and they currently have Adam Voges and Samit Patel at the crease, so a revival is far from being out of the question.

Amjad Khan and Rana Naved have been very good in this first session, and James Anyon has come on and bowled with pace and intent early in his spell and has been rewarded with the wicket of Patel Jnr.

Samit Patel really riding his luck so far in his innings. Struggling with the short ball, opting to try and play it on each occasion, yet far from convincingly, having problems especially against James Anyon who has bowled a most impressive seven over spell leading up to lunch,

Tbf, all of Sussex's attack has been on target, Rana led the way and has been chief beneficiary with three wickets, but was well supported in his opening spell at the other end by Amjad Khan who maintained the pressure on Notts, who surely must seek to break the shackles after lunch once they re-establish themselves at the crease.

Panesar has bowled accurately and varied his pace much more than he ever used to when donning the England whites.

Patel is digging in, but has frequently played loose shots away from his body, while Voges is looking more comfortable at the other end. The pitch is not entirely easy to bat on, there is a hint of variable bounce and the brilliant sunshine that was present yesterday has given way to more overcast conditions today. However, Sussex have still needed to hit the right areas, something they have done so far today.

Pietersen gone for Surrey for 30, removed by Zafar Ansari in his first over, who is unsurprisingly described a slow left arm orthodox bowler. What a turn up.

Haha KP. Would it be worth carrying Ojha in the England-India series for his wicket alone?
