Great to see Samit is back and Taylor still there!

Bairstow or Samit to open?

Yes Patel now supposedly reaching the ,kind of fitness levels he should be, so if they deem him a player capable enough to represent England, then it makes sense to select him for the Lions.

Yes probably Bairstow opening, with Patel at seven ? Or the other way round. A strong looking middle order with Taylor, Bopara, Morgan and Hildreth occupying positions 3-6.

Then one of Shahzad, Finn, Dernbach and Onions to miss out, you'd expect.

Gale and Stokes are pretty low in the pecking order, and Harris against Dernbach is reasonable seeing as they wanted to bring dernbach into the WC squad.

No Davies is weird, especially considering he could open. What's he done to drop so far down? And Briggs over Rashid is nonesense at this point. Rashid has over 250 FC wickets while this is Briggs' first county season. Not to mention that Rashid is a much better bat too.

Anyon, looking quite nippy, obviously the speed-gun is nonsense, but he cleaned up Stuey there. Notts rather crumbling.

I bet Sussex are glad they batted first, pitch has gone from a batting paradise to a up and down, turner. Not sure if I'd make Notts follow on and have to bat last on that pitch.

Anyon has bowled briskly and really well all day so far. They were talking earlier about him having put on a good yard of pace, and has been consistently the quickest bowler on show in this game.

Yes there is some variable bounce around, but with the right application I'm sure batsmen can flourish on it, it's by no means unplayable imo. What has made things extremely difficult is how well the Sussex attack have bowled, if they can replicate that kind of performance in the second innings there is unlikely to be any play on Friday!

Sussex have enforced the follow-on, so they may be required to chase a testing total on the last day if Notts bat anything like what they're capable of.

Its quite clear they have taken in to account the county games that are going on that week. Yorkshire are playing Lancashire so it wouldn't really be fair to take 3 players away from Yorkshire given that Lancashire are going to have Jimmy playing. Similarly Yorkshire have Brophy already playing who can take the wicketkeeping gloves, Surrey might not have someone similar like that (although is Wilson still there?). Hampshire don't have a FC game (although they have 2 ODs)

its not Briggs first CC season btw, he played all last year and toured with the Lions, made his debut in 09.

I wonder how much consideratin is given to the County fixtures on the day an England Lions game is taking place. You can understand them not wanting to take too many players away from a County, though not sure the players missing out for the Lions would necessarily see it that way. They may feel as though they're being overlooked unless the communication from the ECB is good.

Yes Gary Wilson is still at Surrey and could step into the position of keeper/batsman had Steve Davies been selected, but it does give an opportunity to have a closer look at Johnny Bairstow against international opposition.

There's been some good aggressive bowling in this match really from spinners and pace bowlers. The batting hasn't been brilliant though.

I would of gone for Rashid and Davies too, but I guess we've seen lots of them, and we've gone for some young uns amongst the "usual suspects".

I've explained how awesome Tim Bresnan is, right?

Just about fought back to a par score for the day if these two stay in.

Dernbach to miss out, imo. Based on early season form, I'd have thought Meaker may have got the nod ahead of Dernbach but the selectors really do seem to rate the latter for some reason. I'm unsure why, he doesn't really have too much pace or swing, just a bit of both.

Wonder if Patel's a bolter for the number 6 slot in the Test series? Reckon it's a 3-way battle in the Lions game.

MoYo gunning it. Any chance he could be recalled by the Pakistan selectors?
He can't come back. The man's already been banned, retired, and permanantly dropped at various times. They'd have no way left to get rid of him.

The PCB plan ahead, you know.

Yes ,I've been surprised by Meakers' form, he seems to have developed quite a bit, since last year and has been bowling better lines and length, added to his pace, he is proving, a much improved bowler. On form, I'd have put Meaker, in front of Dirtbag and I'd have liked to see what he could do, against a international side.
