English Domestic Season 2011

Lancs unchanged for the game against Somerset, no space for Maharoof. Somerset won the toss and batting, usually a bowl first pitch Liverpool as it flattens out as it goes along so could be interesting.

edit Haha Mahmoods first ball goes for 4, Tresco is out to the second ball

Notts 7-2 :-O

Good start having lost the toss.

Make that 7-3, Samit Patel out first ball and Sidebottom on a hat trick.

And in already it would seem. Go son.
Don't see Khawaja as technically tight enough to flourish in England.

Still, saying that, it hasn't rained since February (barely an exaggeration) so it will all be in the pitch (or the ball, Ravi) if he is going to be worked out, We will see...

I don't know about that, he made some pretty decent scores down here on very much bowler-friendly wickets (I remember one game where he got a 60 or 80... and QLD were bowled out twice in a day to lose by an innings where NSW had put up 200-odd) against some good, accurate seam/swing bowling. Good temperament. Squares up too easily though, will give you that.

Notts 43-5 now, Sidebottom snares 3 against his old team.

Derbyshire 45-3 but Khawaja still there on 16.

Chapple off for a scan and Onions missing from the Durham side. Worrying for both.

My conclusion is based purely on what I saw at the SCG in the Fifth Test, whilst noticing/reading/hearing a quite incredible degree of hype, which, as far as I could tell, was based entirely on the facts that (i) he was Asian and (ii) he hit his second ball for a one-bounce four.

Whilst I think it's clear that he's got a good degree of big match temperament - although Swann did make him look a prize **** in the first dig - he always looked like he was about to go chasing one. I think he was caught in the cordon twice in the 'A' game in Tasmania and Anderson got him in similar fashion on the fourth afternoon.

Either way, Derby are now 3/45, as Gareth Berg's got two people to nick off in the space of an over, so clearly the ball is doing something. It's as good a time as any for him to show what Derby are paying for.

Hmm. He managed to add all of zero runs between my posting this and his getting out.

Incidentally, Gareth Berg this season: 4/31, 2/15 and 3/4. Figures of 9/50...

Nice to see Alastair Cook getting back to his Ashes form, his first half-century this season. Good recovery from Essex having lost Billy Godleman early doors.

Seems to have been a decent opening spell from Saj Mahmood at Liverpool, 2-16 off 8 including the prize scalp of Trescothick.

Thought Durham had opted to rest Onions from this game, a sensible move really with this game coming quickly after their last.

Berg now picked up the big wicket of Greg Smith, leaving Derby skipper Luke Sutton to again try and resurrect the innings. They're 69-5, and deep in the mire. Berg 4-10 off 7 overs.
