Doesn't matter what they're paid, really. Japan had complete control of the midfield.

Our weaknesses are an inability to convert scoring chances and the height deficit in our defense line (also, a failure to understand the offside trap). The teams that take control of us are teams that manage to make the most of their height advantage -- you did it in 2006, so you should know.
Japan had control of midfield??????

They controlled ****

Australia failed to convert innumerable chances and paid for it against a half reasonable Asian side - end of story

If anything, this tournament has shown that Australia can produce along the ground. We don't have the quality players to deliver good balls into the box, so being a foot taller is nullified. We got into the final playing good, passing football, but we didn't show enough of it tonight.

Loved the game, personally.
This. Thought it a good game to watch. At least we're getting forward. Certainly better to wTch than stonewalling non-stop for 90 and hoping to catch a break.

Gutted. We had them on the ropes but just couldn't knock them out. A lapse in concentration and we're down. Harry-****ing-Kewell. His finishing ended up costing us the cup.

Watched a replay this morning (I must be a masochist) and tbf to the Japanese, they were denied a cast iron penalty in the first half - defender basically employed a rugby tackle

Future looks bright for them as it's a very young team

Oz are obviously facing some issues with the number of older players in the team but it was heartening to see the emergence of some relative unknowns

However, what we wouldnt give for an out and out striker

Jedinak is such a poor defensive midfielder.

And as I was saying throughout the Asian Cup, I don't like our system. Would much rather see Jedinak swapped for an attacking midfielder. Emerton is getting on aswell.

The Germans actually gave a **** last year IIRC.
As did Ghana, which probably explains why the Poms somehow managed a draw against them

Anyway, this result was worth it just to shove it up the behind of that arrogant Bayern ****

Someone needs to tell him that Bayern are the equivalent of an A-league club atm:laugh:

Turns out the Serbia game is in Melbourne. Dammit.

...moving on, so professional from the Socceroos seconds tonight. I thought Zullo looked promising, and Vidosic is just so gun.

Want to comment on Australia vs NZ last night.

Not impressed with the New Zealand display vs the Roos...there were some nice plays from Rojas in particular...but I have discovered the secret of why NZ lose in soccer to the top teams...we are not very good.

There were genuinely times out there when I felt I could have done better. Passes so poor that they went straight out instead of going to a player who was 10 metres away.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Netherlands vs Brazil - friendly.

This friendly was frustrating at times from both sides.

Will repeat what I said during the Asia Cup - I don't like our 4-2-3-1. We fail to create much of substance.

EDIT: Probably because both Mile and Valeri sit so deep. At least one of them need to stay more forward, though neither really have the desired touch to do so.
