Hasn't had his tyres pumped up by Warnie and seems fairly quiet so I'm guessing he'll be lucky to ever play a Test.

Decent lower order bat, too. Makes no sense.

Haven't really seen him bowl much, but I've been very impressed by his economy recently. First innings figures of 3/64 off 34 overs is very miserly, especially given that that seems to be what the national selectors want from spinners, some tight overs and a wicket here and there.

But won't he know the home conditions well for the Test at the SCG? :p
If Warnie hasn't spruiked you/mentioned your drinking/wingman abilities, you're nothing. O'Keefe hasn't had that nor has his bowling been thoroughly and irreparably gimped by TJ.

O'Keefe, from all reports, is a normal dude who bats, bowls, fields well and always manages to find a way to contribute. There is no place for a man like that in the current Test side.

I think you'll enjoy reading my State of the Nation essay on Australian cricket.

Release date 1 May.

This is soooo anticipated...

Still not sold on Copeland, his bowling speeds are pretty slow for a test bowling spot, between 115 and 120km's is not quick, i'd be happier with Andrew McDonald, he can bat too.

Copeland's definitely a better bowler than McDonald. As much as I like watching him bowl and would love nothing more than seeing him get a proper opportunity in Tests, though, I don't really see much difference between what he sends down and what Butterworth does for example, other than perhaps his ability to bowl super-long spells. Butterworth's a much better bat too and isn't spoken about nearly as highly as what Copeland is.

There's definitely a bit of an unnatural pace fixation in Australian cricket at the moment - making batsmen look uncomfortable is not the same as getting them out - but Copeland's successes do need to be taken into context given the livelier pitches we've seen since his debut. Definitely deserves a go; whether he'll get one is another matter though and I think we can all see why even if we don't necessarily agree with it.

Oh Copeland is better than Macca as a bowler, but he'll be a toiler in the test team, and we've had Hilfy toiling badly all summer, is it right to just replace one for another? I dont know, i'd be happy to see him given a go, but in SL it will be hard work, and i'm sure he'll come away from SL with much to show apart from a great economy rate, no green pitches there, or even in the Aussie tests next season either, possibly in SA later in the year he might go really well like S Clark did in 2006.

Yeah Sri Lanka would not be a good place for him to debut at all IMO.

Tassie storming home now. Fatty Cosgrove looking to end it before tea. WAG.

Yo Blues, text time hold your catches and accelerate earlier.

Fair season for Cosgrove, has to be said. Dropped from SA for 'not living up to his potential' (oye), backs up this season with a 50+ average, the top runs for the year on a largely ropey home deck and hits the winning runs in a Shield winning side.

Yet another short-sighted decision SACA pays off for someone else. Will be topped off if he scores a Test spot now too.
