***Official*** Australian Domestic Season 2010/11

Stars sounds like what you'd give to a netball team, imo. They'd need a completely badass (and simple) logo like the Dallas Stars have to make it work.

A part of me wanted at least one of these new teams to come out with a completely bat**** insane name. Even though the Adelaide franchise overtly wanted to go for a name that was against the grain, their ultimate choice was still fairly safe.

I suppose if it takes a few extra train stations to get to either the MCG or Etihad, you'd consider that team the 'away' team :P

Speaking of Bevan, and also getting further sidetracked, anyone bothered to check my 1994 Aus tour of Pakistan vid, where Bevan takes his first test wicket bowling left arm fast medium......
To digress even further.... Bevan was actually a very good fast-medium bowler before injuries forced him to take up the chinamen, used to open the bowling in grade cricket and for the ACT Comets. Was said to be very quick by ACT grade cricket standards.

Poor idea this from CA to have two teams for one city don't think it makes much sense, if they just wanted to make up the numbers then alloting franchises to smaller cities would have been the way to go.

I hate how the A-League and now Cricket Australia have multiple teams with "Melbourne". Can't they be North and South Melbourne, like the AFL do/used to do.

I hate the idea of conversation going like this:
"who do you support?"
"Melbourne"
"which one?"

****ers.

Yup. Also notable is that despite his horror start and missing a lot of the season with Australia, Hughes still ended up 6th.

Here's
the leading wicket-takers. Butterworth, Maher and Faulkner 1st, 3rd and 4th.
Maher,0„2Faulkner and Butterworth all among the wickets so no wonder Tassies did so well.

Cosgrove is class player so you pretty much expect him to do well in most conditions but the consistentcy of some of the other future test batsmen is definitely a concern and primary reason for that is fast-bowler friendly conditions.

With all due respects to likes of Maher, Butterworth and Faulkner they are exactly not the sort of bowlers you would back to do so well in normal conditions , which really makes you wonder why Australian cricket management is allowing the domestic cricket arena to be used as some lab to conduct experiments.

Personally, that they and guys like Copeland have dominated Shield cricket the last couple of years is reflective of how sporty Bellerive has been and that batters around the country can't seem to handle med-quick straight/swing bowling.

I'll watch some of this new t20 (as i will with any aussie cricket) but tbh it's now going to be just like the IPL where i can't follow a single team as my favourite players are now spread out and change teams every few years, the team has no history, no meaning and all have generically stupid names. Why not have a North and South Melbourne? At least add some definition that may make people loyal to one side over the other? This is so stupid. I really hope shield cricket makes it to tv soon so i have something besides the stupid split innings one day comp to watch on tv.

I certainly wont attend, but i'll watch a bit of it, at least seeing Aussie talent is good, provided the international stars dont ruin it.

From a glass half full perspective, Australian batsmen have had a weakness against these types of bowlers for quite some time and the more exposure they get to it the better

Furthermore, should these pitches produce batsmen with techniques/mental capacity to combat tough conditions then it's not a bad thing

The major danger is that we produce a generation of medium pacers because history tells us that success with the ball at the highest level requires more than that.

Been a criticism of Aussie techniques since time began hasn't it?

In theory you have a point but we've had a particularly wet summer, even in ADL. One gets the feeling and benefits are likely to be short-lived if they take any effect at all because we'll get back to fairly flat decks. One gets the feeling that any benefits to the Test side would also only happen once front-foot leading relics of flat pitches in the early 00's like Clarke, Watto, Ponting and Haddin leave the side too.

Im not so concerned about whether a player is a big front-footer or whatever as that is only one element of batsmanship and, in any event, it never did Viv any harm - if anything, he was a less technically correct version of Ponting in terms of footwork

IMO, much more comes down to head position and the point at which a player commits to a shot and it is in these areas where playing on roads has definitely contributed to technical weaknesses

Having said that, they (Ponting, Clarke, Watto, etc) would adapt pretty quickly if they had to play a lot in seaming/swinging conditions - they're simply so talented that it defies belief that they couldnt

I think you only have to look at the improvements in Hughes' technique this year to see that it is possible
