Yeah, tbh, those lists are somewhat worrying. Not many Test players in there. Even taking into account sporting decks, no-one came within shouting distance of 1000+/50+ for the season, the top-5 all med-quick swing bowlers. A damning indictment of techniques running around in Shield cricket?
A few very good prospects in there though.

Lynn is very exciting. A 20 year old who has averaged over 50 in his second season when batting for QLD on what has been a year of greentops.

One cannot help but be excited by both Copeland and O'Keefe who could very easily get a call up for the Sri Lanka tour. Copeland could get to the 50 wickets for the season in the final. O'Keefe only played 4 matches, mostly due to Hauritz' selection (well really national non-selection) but picked up 19 wickets, which is quite an accomplishment.

It's interesting to see how few bowlers played in all ten games this season. Nearly every one of them was out with injury or national selection or something else at some stage this season.

Not all good for tassie i gather travis birt will be in a panic over his contract for next year.
New south wales for most the season the form batting line up that goes to tassie now.
Altho they may play an extra bat in hobart.
Maybe birt playing for a contract in the shield final.

Don't rate Copeland in terms of Tests, to be brutal.

As for the rest, think Lynn will be a very good Shield player for QLD and whilst the whole package O'Keefe presents is handy, reckon he won't be good enough to take consistent Test wickets whichN as far as spinners go, is more what OZ should be looking for. Just my preference but I'd always be looking for specialists over bits and pieces guys. He probably deserves a go now but as soon as a spinner of any stripe has a 40+ season, don't think he'd have theskills to beat off that challenge.

Be a very interesting situation in SA. From all reports, Berry has always been a Crosthwaite fan, because he was a much more natural wicket-keeper than Wade. A more inconsistent batsman though.

But when Berry started coaching, he played an instrumental role in getting Tim Ludeman to Carlton, and he was keeping while Nathan Pilon played as a pure batsman to help him develop. He remained one of Ludo's big fans.

I think that Chuck would know that, as pure cricketers, Crossy is a better player. But Ludo has stayed in the system, probably fitter, and would likely have the support of the hierarchy. Very interesting situation.
Who's more likely of the two to play Test cricket?

Such a **** situation that the system here doesn't produce state cricketers, though. 26 players in the squad, only half of them from here and probably 3 who'll play regularly next season, the others either in and out or playing Futures. Can't believe the lack of press on this issue here.

Neither of them will play test cricket. Paine and Wade for the next 10-13 years IMO, but Ludeman looks the goods to me, though Crossy is slightly the better keeper but a worse bat. Need to be looking at very young guys and developing them long term. Would be highly surprised if Wade isnt an international superstar within the next 3 years.

I think that Lynn has to be in the long term test thinking at this stage.

If O'Keefe played a full season this summer he would almost certainly have taken 40+ wickets. He's exactly what is needed in an Aussie spinner too - someone to run through the overs quickly, take some tail end wickets and act as solid support to the quicks. Until we can unearth another MacGill, I think a player of O'Keefe's quality would be an asset to the test side.

I still believe that Hauritz is the best test match spinner we have though.
