Haha, RCB have basically bought out Delhi's overseas set from last year.

They're no longer a 'Test' team, but I can't see this bunch bettering last years RCB performance.

This looks a good team. They've got Delhi's top overseas players, India's frontline seam bowler and young Indian batting hopefuls, so they can't really get it wrong. They just need to sort out the domestic seamer and spinner issue, and need someone better at T20 than Mithun. In addition, they need more balance and versatile players. Losing Vinay to Kochi may be a setback for them.

One thing they lack for me is the real big hitters,specially in the middle order.

Similar problem to Delhi in previous seasons.

They have got Kohli , Ab Devilliers,Dilshan all people who can score quicky in IPL but not someone who can really clear the ropes and score a 30 off 10 balls when there is a crunch.
They are more the kind of people who accelerate after getting set and not power hitters like Symonds, Pollard and Pathan.Someone who is a super over player.
They'll probably get Pandey as well in the lineup who is similar to the above players

Pujara is even less of a hitter and will be more of a anchorman for them ,and that is a reason why he was not picked till late last season for KKR. So will Vettori as a batter and so will their late pick Kaif.

Tiwary can be a big hitter against Spin ,but still has doubts against pace. I think they paid
too much for him,tbh.

Maybe that is why they bought Vandiar and Pomersbach ,but can't see them playing too much. And they attempted to get a big hitter in Ryder but could not at the end.

And also can't figure out why they bought Mithun and not Vinay Kumar,tbh,though in Nannes and Zaheer ,they have a set of handy opening bowlers.


I really like the fact they bought Young though and are a very good team .But can be caught out in crunch situations a bit like Delhi was in the past 3 seasons.

One thing they lack for me is the real big hitters,specially in the middle order....I really like the fact they bought Young though and are a very good team .But can be caught out in crunch situations a bit like Delhi was in the past 3 seasons.

Considering the fact that Bangalore bought out most of India's bright young batting hopefuls, what you say is very discouraging. They are good batsmen, but nobody in the IPL has given them a chance, until Bangalore this year (Tiwari being an exception), and every one of them is worth the salary cheque or credit, however big it appears. It will do these players a lot of good, and as the season progresses, they will get better.

Dilshan and AB can carry this team. Both can turn up the scoring rate when needed, as we have seen across formats since 2008, and a little earlier. The lack of a power player will pinch them, unless they either leave that role to a powerfully-built bowler with decent batting technique (Mithun, maybe? or Akhil?) or hunt in places like Madhya Pradesh (only state not home to an IPL team, so a hot hunting ground or 'market') although the form of Karnataka's SMAT team has been encouraging. Someone named Mayank Agarwal set the scene on fire last time.

They've lost Vinay Kumar, while Mithun is nothing special (yet), while the less famous Sreenath Aravind will be an obvious pick. That is, if all roads don't lead to Madhya Pradesh. There are options in Maharashtra, Haryana and Rajasthan, but two of these states are home to IPL teams, so getting someone from there will be tough.

And of course, there's old guard Sunil Joshi. He hasn't retired, yet.

I'm not - West Indies' international schedule means that their players are barely available for either this year's IPL or in 2012, and while there have been a few WTF moments in this auction, all the IPL owners seem to have learned that splashing big money on players who will barely be available or injury prone (see Pierersen and Flintoff in 2009) isn't a particularly good idea.

I guess that is fair enough. Tim Southee is one I would have thought who would of got a bid.

Kolkata's lineup will be one worth speculating about. I wouldn't be surprised if they can't finish a lineup of eleven, or even need all of their eleven players in batting or bowling.

Batting: Gambhir, Yusuf, Morgan, RTD, Shukla, Tiwari
Bowling: Lee, Balaji, RTD, Yusuf, Shukla
Keeping: Haddin
Multiple Men: RTD, Yusuf, Shukla, Lee

Alternatively, they can have Kallis as a batsman or add an extra bowler in Shakib and split the bowling across six options. Either way, they bench Haddin. The uncertainty about their combination is proof of how disjointed this team is, with players from all over the country and abroad. With all-rounders playing a crucial part in both batting and bowling, they can pick virtually any batsman, but good fielders will be a priority.

I have tried and failed to care about the IPL and I think it's because I don't actually have a team to support. So this time I'm going to pick a franchise from the start and see what they can do. All of them are evil corporations, so I can't like the owners. And I can't like or dislike the players because I can't be bothered to look them all up.

So it's going to have to be who has the best name. The obvious ones to go are Chennai Super Kings - I don't smoke. Then there's Mumbai Indians, which manages to be simultaneously unoriginal and untrue.

Warriors and Daredevils I guess could be nice people at heart but altogether sound a bit dangerous for my taste. Knight Riders? No. The 1980s were a wholly unhelpful decade and I need no reminding of them.

Kochi and Deccan I find hard to get excited about. The Kochi "Team" isn't particularly enthralling and while I do use Chargers on a day-to-day basis (for my ipod and such), they're not items with a great deal of character.

The Royals and the Kings XI have got to go, I've never supported the monarchy and I don't want to confuse myself. Royal Challengers sound much more rebellious, they're a possibility.

And... yep, that's all of them. RCB will be my team of choice. I stand by my decision and I'm sticking with them.

Now, to look up their squad for the tournament...

Wish someone would put up the squads of all the teams. I had a look at a few and found them all to be more or less alright with no real standouts.

Having said that, I think that Pune team looks nice and compact with some smart buys. Dunno which 4 foreign players they will end up playing though. Mathews surely has to be one of them.

Actually like the look of KXIP to some extent. Decent team all round.

Why would any team not pick Chris Gayle. He is such an explosive batsman. He can single handily turn any game. He at 400k would have been an excellent pick.
Can it be because of his overall attitude?

Well, in April-May the West Indies will be hosting Pakistan in a series that includes two Tests, so I'd suggest that the WICB probably don't want him to play....

At least, that's the impression I get from reading Gayle's tweet.

It just comes across as not widely dissimilar from a slave auction. Yes, I appreciate the differences, i.e. players come out of it with loads of riches, etc. But that doesn't make me dislike it any less.
