Well I'm guessing the main aim of the teams is not to win the tournament but to get the most marketable players. That's where they make most of their money anyways, not from the cash prize.

What is ridiculous about this whole process is that non capped players like Pandey and Rayudu are worth 30 to 50k only as a maximum set by board.

While just one cap or a few caps for India ,enters you into auction and suddenly boom ,you are worth 1 million plus,even if you are a worse player.

Because IPL laws state the local boards can still refuse NOC for a period of 1 year (2 years?) from their retirement. That clause was built in specifically to prevent players ditching their home boards for T20 money.
