AWTA, often read the posts over there for the lollersThey don't rate anyone on there unless they bowl 90mph (Sami has dedication threads...) or they hit "big six". Afridi and Imran Nazir would be the forums popular choice for opening combo in this test.
From what I read, Umar Gul was apparently moving his thumb across the seam. I have no idea if that it is true; I didn't watch a single over of the match (the match starts at half past three in the morning here).:o there was an incident again!
He isn't a test player to be honest. What's wrong with Afridi opening in tests?
Perfect, but since he retired, should get Wahab Riaz to open. Will do better than 0(1) or 6(2) tbf. What's wrong with Afridi opening in tests?
There’s nothing conclusive enough in that footage to pass judgment. But I can’t blame anyone for casting doubts on Gul. The fact is, Pakistan have a less than stellar reputation for ethics. Most of that reputation is hard earned, some not so much. The cricket world as a whole is less likely to give the benefit of the doubt to a Pakistani player than someone else. And as a Pakistani, we have no one else to blame for that than ourselves. Gul is at fault here for even giving an impression that he’s tempering with the ball. I don’t think he is, but he shouldn’t even come close to holding the ball in a way that gives that impression.Well, it has become something of a fashion to point fingers at Pakistan for everything, but to be fair to the New Zealand commentators here, this allegation is not completely baseless. If you watch part two of this from 9.00, you can just about make out Umar Gul moving his thumb (over the seam ?). Whether or not he was actually tampering with the ball I do not know, but it does look a little dodgy if you watch closely.
See that video, he's clearly moving his thumb. In that pick he simply hiding the shiny side of the ball from the batsman.
Its quite a habit to just start this ball tempering rant when a Pakistani bowler gets it to reverse...what a load of baseless ****.
The footage that Blaze linked to shows him slightly moving his right thumb. Nothing conclusive at all for sure. With all that Pakistani cricketers have gotten into in the past few years, do you really fault people for raising eyebrows? In that pick he simply hiding the shiny side of the ball from the batsman.

Right Gul should get a life ban for this gross misconduct! There’s nothing conclusive enough in that footage to pass judgment. But I can’t blame anyone for casting doubts on Gul. Oh come on..stop being so defensive all of a sudden...enough of this baloney already...there is nothing in that video suggesting he did anything wrong.....The footage that Blaze linked to shows him slightly moving his right thumb.
