*Official* - Pakistan in New Zealand 2010/2011

That's just flat-out wrong tbh. He's averaged >40 for the last 5-6 years because he hasn't been through peaks & troughs, but has actually been incredibly consistent. This being up to the latest NZ/Indian test series
Going to have to disagree with you there. To me Vettori is either ON with the bat and he's very good, or he's OFF and has some pretty poor series. For example if you take just 2008:

Bangladesh in NZ: 126 runs at 63
England in NZ: 230 runs at 46
NZ in England: 61 runs at 12.2
NZ in Bangladesh: 153 runs at 76.5
NZ in Australia: 43 runs at 14.3
West Indies in NZ: 59 runs at 29.5
He then averaged over 50 in each of the three 2009 series

I think that's more variable than most of our other batsmen, like Taylor for example. Some very good series with some very poor ones in between. I don't really have a theory as to why this is - Vettori scored runs against England and Australia at other times but in those two series was awful with the bat. Captaincy could easily be blamed.

You'll need more than one year in the last 5-6 (up to the NZ/Ind test series) to convince me, as you said yourself, 2009 he was consistent, what about 05',06; & 07'?

watched 5 overs of Tanveer 'trundler' Ahmed and Abdur Rehman then went back to sleep sums up the day and Pakistan bowling attack.

Thought it was a great day tbh. The match yo-yo'd between the two sides, and finished with shared honours.

Mate, to reduce NZ to 260/7 at stumps on that highway Pakistan have there noses in front whether you want to be pessimistic about it or not :p Aside from letting it slip in the last hour, that was almost a dream day for them, especially at 177/7

Nah, Pakistan are ahead, 380-420 looks par batting first on that deck imo. There's no reason they can't roll us for 280 tomorrow & then get 450. Even though their batting isn't proven, it's not like we have a ferocious attack & the wicket looks superb for batting. Hope I'm wrong & Southee & Willy get us to 380

yeah scoreline suggest we had a decent day but tbh saw some of the wickets it seemed like they were thrown away, also this bowling attack bores the **** out of me.

As the old saying goes, that's all that matters, it'll be in the paper tomorrow etc etc ....

It's only honours even because I don't trust their batting not to do exactly what we did today.

But yeah, I have the horrible feeling the next innings will be decided on who is less poor.

Pakistan have almost always punched above their weight when touring NZ over the years (with the odd exception) becoz we always let them smell blood too easily, and once they're on the front-foot, there's no stopping them. They've done it to us time & time again since 93'. Mark my words Flem, some relatively unknown cricketer will do some freakish for them i.e 7-32 or something :p

lol...i wanted to use the punching above their weight argument for NZ. Actually even 300 might seem like a par score for Pakistan. Our batting sucks big time and I don't see them rolling over NZ any time soon if they keep bowling the way they did with the 2nd new ball.

What do posters think of Tanvir Ahmed's bowling? He has come off the back of a prolific season, he lacks a bit of pace but seems to make up for it with swing and accuracy. I've been impressed in the little I've seen of him, but have not seen nearly enough to comment fully.

Don't ask Zuhaib............he hates him with a passion....but Tanvir seems ok to me. However in the last spell of the day he was rubbish. The yorker that he bowled to Vettori was awesome.

PakPassion fans seem outraged that he bowls at 120-135kph. They seem to actively ignore his wickets. I guess they do fulfill the stereotype of thinking that speed matters above actual performances.

I was impressed with Guptill today. That's the most application he's shown at this level and he didn't panic when the spinner tied him down. He got out in dire fashion but credit to him, he was solid and he scored some runs.

He really does have a habit of saving his best innings for when the calls for his dropping are about to begin.
I wasn't. Full credit to him for batting longer than any other batsman and getting 50, but it was an ugly, painful innings. He never looked comfortable at the crease and threw his wicket away to one of the worst balls bowled this year.
For a guy with so much talent, it's so frustrating to see him struggle at Test level. His inability to push singles and turn the strike over is diabolical. That's one of the basic skills a Test No.3 needs. A classic case of someone in desperate need of some good coaching and advice.

Pakpassion fans are stupid. Although PAkpassion's cricket vids are some of the best.

Tanvir has a lot to prove at the moment. You might want to recall that Asif did not have much pace either and was in a similar range with his pace. The problem is that Tanvir doesn't move the ball as well as Asif does and it seems that Tanvir can go for a lot of runs (as in the last session today). If you do have genuine pace then you have other options like cranking it up and bowling into the body of the batsman to tighten things up if you can't get the line and length right. Maybe that is why Pakpassion fans find it disconcerting that if taken to the cleaners Tanvir won't have too many options.

Shared honours? No way. Pakistan well ahead.

If the tables were turned and it was Pakistan who were 260/7, as a NZ supporter, I'd be very happy. The tables aren't turned and I'm definitely NOT happy with NZ's performance.

He bowled well. Both of his wickets came from excellent deliveries.

Rehman was definitely the best of the Pakistan bowlers. Gul was a little disappointing.

They don't rate anyone on there unless they bowl 90mph (Sami has dedication threads...) or they hit "big six". Afridi and Imran Nazir would be the forums popular choice for opening combo in this test.
