*Official* - Pakistan in New Zealand 2010/2011

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Moral of the story is Pakistan always bowl well no matter how **** their attack may look on paper.
If you mean fairly average and non-threatening when you say well, then yes.

NZ have been getting themselves out mostly in this innings.

Enough to outweigh all the good innings he's played.

The way some people carry on you'd think he averaged 35 and played a heave to the legside once every two overs.
I don't think he plays poorly, but to claim that he's eliminated that shot from his game and has become mr responsible is going too far in the other direction. In his only good knock in 2010, he was dropped 3 times playing wild slashes, and he hasn't really improved to any noticeable extent since he established himself against England in 2008. His form comes and goes but very little has changed in terms of his overall temperament.

I think you'll find that looking at his wagon wheels he plays considerably less shots on the legside.

Though that is an aspect of his game that has risen since our tour of England.

I'm not entirely sure about that. He's always been big on driving through the covers in the longer form of the game.

Did they end up showing the Hawkeye of the Young LBW?

He looked pretty well forward, saw the Vettori one but nothing for Young.

Did I miss it?

DWTA. In 2008-2009, he was very calm in his temperament, and definitely played better then than he has in 2010.

One good knock in 2010? Didn't his string of 90s vs Pakistan happen plus his century against Australia occur in 2010? I grant you the Australian century was wild very early on, and Pakistan dropped him early, but to counterweight those pieces of good fortune are his three best knocks: 120 vs England, 154* vs England, and 151(?) vs India when we were 3/23.

And the shot only comes out when he's well in. As Athers said, if you looked at his wagon wheel I think you'd find he's predominantly and offside player in test matches. He lacks confidence early (the scoreboard wouldn't help), but when he's in he's pretty responsible.

And he scores runs, so his detractors can basically gagf.

This is first time I've watched Williamson live and he looks a very solid player to me.
Looks safe at the crease. Only 20 so there is even a lot of cricket for him until he reaches the experience of 24 year old Khuwaja.

The Pakistan knocks were in 2009. And he wasn't just edgy against Australia early. Had a sitter dropped by Watson when he was on about 80 iirc. Was a brilliant but streaky knock, much like his 150 against India in 2009. Go and find the highlights if you like. Slashed it through the gully region so many times, TH was going mental about how lucky he was. Much better than that one was the 100 he made in the 3rd testof that series, when he looked a lot more in control.

As for the slog sweep, regardless of how well in he is, it still gets him out often enough to suggest that he just shouldn't play it in the longer form of the game.

Yes he scores runs and he's clearly one of the best 3 or 4 batsmen in the country. But that doesn't mean he's without flaws and isn't open to occasional criticism.

Lovely last cover drive that. Good to see, given how awful Arnel is, we really need a quality number 9 to pad the lower order.

Watching Williamson, its frustrating how little power he seems to get into a lot of his shots.
