Have been thinking that finally, after all these years, we're finally beginning to emulate Australia. Seeing as we've all been watching the Ashes anyway...

Ryder is our Hussey - the only decent in-form batsman in the top order, and if he gets out through bad luck or from just being human, it's all over.

Williamson is our Clarke - as many have pointed out, though luckily he is not as out-of-form.

Guptill is our Watson - Though traditionally gets himself out around 30 rather than around 60.

Arnel should be able to 'run in hard all day' like a similarly unattractive Australian fast bowler.

Southee is a Hilfenhaus with the ball...
... bit might be capable of a Siddle with the bat.

Taylor plays like a young and impetuous Steve Smith. It's a pity Taylor is about five years older and the vice captain.

Any more?

Some dire posting tbh.
Thanks Athlai

This is a gun partnership.

Ouch @ Ryder's dismissal, but Guptill does hit straight so all NZ batsmen should be cognisant of that, especially in a Test match.

As a side-note, what's with Vettori batting in the last 3-4 months? Has been incredibly out-of-form

Williamson is batting with a maturity well beyond his years (again). He's got Ryder's cool but he's several years younger.

I think Southee could average 30 odd in ten years time in tests tbh.
Hasn't had the worst start averaging 22 at this stage, but reckon he'll end up around the 25-27 mark at best personally.

Also Mike, the preliminary finals of the 'coolest tv themes' is up if you get a chance, cheers

Question: We know Williamson is down the order to ease him in, but would you rather him in at 1/9 or the score he came in today?

He's kinda screwed either way.:p

Happy enough for him to bat at 6 for at least the next 18 mths or so, if Guptill continues to throw every start he gets away, then we can look at getting Williamson up there.

Guptill played OK though. I was thinking when we were 80 odd for 1 that we could have put him in then so he could stabilize the innings much like a Kallis type player. It is a shame that he will probably run out of partners here though.

Vettori's batting does tend to go through big peaks and troughs. Having said that, I have doubts about whether he'll be able to keep averaging 40 per season or whether his batting might go downhill fast - an Oram-like decline would not be good.
