For a change, we've had a good selection for the Indian team, bar geriatric ODI misfit Munaf getting a game ahead of Vinay Kumar. The top five is strong, you've got a six-seven-eight that can pack a punch in the final overs, and there's balance in the bowling attack. It's come off a rather impressive run of form, either in the Tests or in the domestic games. This is an ideal team, and the coach/captain should optimise this selection to get more out of it, as it's got most of the bases covered.

They still need to, as a batting side, work on getting the better of a top fielding side. We often see the Indians, despite playing seven batsmen, struggle to score over 300 regularly, when the fielding ties them down, and breathtaking catches and smart positions have often taken wickets, putting a question mark on many of India's best ODI batting prospects. Their four-and-six hitting also needs a lot of work, as their wickets have fallen attempting the big shot here. Sometimes, the stereotypical flat-track-bully may be an asset. And there's India's bottom three. Dire.

Gauti may be a good alternative captain for this side, in case they need one.

Hopefully Pathan can biff a quick 20 odd from here on and get us to something just about defendable.

Actually he can bowl YouTube - India vs Pakistan Bowl Out :p

honestly though I'd still much rather have a proper # 7 who can play the finisher's role properly. That's one thing I've always hated. India always stock up on batsman to make up for the ****ty bowling but they don't realize it doesn't work like that. Finishing an innings is not something any batsman can do. Not to mention Uthappa is a way better fielder and can keep in case Dhoni gets injured.

The current collapse just proves my point. Are we really expecting guys like Ashwin to help us hit quickfire 30-40's in crunch situations
In a strong team, a proper #7 is a multi-skilled player, not a specialist batsman. India have had proper #7's in the past, but they were either too good to be there and ultimately stagnated (Kaif and Uthappa) or just plain dire (Sunil Gavaskar Jr and Dinesh Mongia). In fact, the #7 position may have ruined Kaif and Uthappa.

We need to give the likes of Saha and Ashwin more chances. Ashwin is a far, far, far better batsman than most Indian tailenders, and better than what your closing line says. He's a genuine all-rounder for TN, and a strike bowler, and in the final overs, riding on an impressive show by the top six, he's an asset. India would be well served with at least three Ashwins among five bowlers. They've largely got the team right (Vinay should be a starter, while Munaf, nowhere near the bench) and should persist with this set, building on strengths and ironing out flaws. They need a little time.

Simon Doull doesn't seem to know much about Yusuf Pathan....He's wondering about "the thought process behind bowling short to him".

Poor finish from India. When one of your batsmen scores a century at better than a run a ball, 300 should be a bare minimum score.
