I never got the problem with mints. Are you going to legislate what type of gum or mints you can eat?
Of course. If it's shown that stuff in certain brands of mints artificially polishes the ball, then why not?

Law 42 (Fair and unfair play) - Laws - Laws of Cricket - Laws & Spirit - Lord's

3. The match ball - changing its condition
(a) Any fielder may
(i) polish the ball provided that no artificial substance is used and that such polishing wastes no time.
For some reason, it was never investigated whether the Murray Mints helped alter the condition of the ball but that's not to say it didn't.

Myself, it was overblown and the English bowlers were just too good regardless, though.

As a former Yorkshire and England player once said

"What we want is no umpires and fair cheating all round"

IMO Ponting's spit should be outlawed.
I would agree with that, but i despise spitting.

I hate seeing sportsmen spit on a field of play. I can understand between rounds in a boxing bout when in a corner, but otherwise I hate it with a passion.

Second most ungentlemanly thing there is, imho.

No. It is incomprehensible that that England side could have beaten that Australian side without cheating. And no England bowler has achieved reverse swing, not once, since the mints were dispensed with

They did nothing against the rules. If Australia didn't, that's just them deciding not to use a perfectly allowable technique in sport to improve performance.
We tried, unfortunately in that series Gillepsie used chewing gum. He attached it to the ball.

Yeah in firm agreement with this, it's just vile. Even worse when you see people do it on the street for no reason though. Terrible.

So what if my post was provocative?
Nothing, just saying that.

And it's not laughable. So you think fielders in the slips wouldn't have seen that? If that's the case they're not watching the game. I find that hard to believe.
If it landed a foot in front of Dhoni, The Umpires, KP, non-striker would have seen it. Since no one could with naked eye, your statement that it landed a foot in front of Dhoni is false, so is your accusation against the Indian Players.

And you don't even know where Tendulkar was during that incident.

He was missing.

Like your sense of humour.

Trescothick's Murray Mint relevations only referred to the 2003 Ashes.

Although I rather feel I'm spoiling all kinds of fun by pointing that out.

Was under the impression it was first used in '01 and continued all the way to '05? Have not read Trescothick's book, though.

I remember some talk about XXXX mints, or something. Maybe that was what Bracken was talking about post-Ashes 2005, when he talked about the mints. I think, maybe.

Simon Jones' stirring defence to the allegations will always ring in my ears...

"Well, they would have done it too".
