Of course not. But you can make an educated guess before teams make tours to tough conditions in recent years like AUS 96-2007, India vs Kumble/Harbhaja or SRI vs Murali/Vaas - whether the opposition has the tools batting or bowling wise to upset.


With regards to the IND 08 tour. It was fairly obvious long before that series began that AUS didn't have the tools to win with regards to bowling attack. So IND wins can't be rated as highly.

I mean England were never expected to be competitive in 05 either.

Well yes sometimes the unexpected happens like that series IND vs AUS 2001. SA vs AUS 52/53, IND vs AUS 2001, ENG VS SA 98. AUS vs WI 60/61, IND vs WI 2002. Where seemingly inferior teams step up unexpectedly. But those things dont always happen.

To be fair to ENG in 05, some did believe they had a team to win.

As for talking some sense now.. Any team will struggle with their regular 3 batsman missing and when its against World #2 team..... than it'll become even more tougher.

Most cases yes. But inversely one can argue this series is a good chance for INDs batting reserves to step up.

FYI.. i don't remember a match where Aus played without Ponting, Hayden n some other batsman during that period.

Although Saha would have never played. IND losing Dravid, Laxman & replacing with Vijay & Badrinath is comparable to:

- Aus losing M Waugh & Lehmann coming right in as replacement'

- S Waugh retiring young Clarke coming up circa 2004

- Ponting missing IND 04 & Katich taking over & doing well @ 3

- Post Ashes 05 when Martyn/Katich was dropepd & Hodge/Hussey coming in againts a strong SA team & doing well

- Langer going out & Jaques coming in

- Hayden retiring & Symonds being dropped young Hughes & Nroth coming againts SA in a similar # 1 vs # 2 clash like this current series & doing well.

Could me more, but aint able remember others ATM..

As far as aussie is concerned, any test Australia ever lost is because their team was in disarray and the opposition got lucky with conditions, umpiring, batting, bowling, fielding, weather, football, baseball and the President...

And as far as your are concerned everytime IND lost ESPECIALLY to AUS was because Ponting was always complaining as captain & all the grounds where affected by seasonal rainfall.

English love criticizing their own short comings more than anyone else. So no need to dig up.
But I am pretty sure most people thought it'd be competitive. For every aus fan mcgrath injury is the only reason ENG won , for every ENG fan flintoff came to his own only in the 2nd test is the reason they lost first one so easily.

didn't want to respond but is very hard not to

india lost 2 players to injury where in your example is there 2 very good batsmen missing games due to injury.

people dropped is due to the fact that they where out of form while injury is different hope you know the difference
