*Official* Pakistan in Australia

a) If Greig calls him Craig White one more time I'll blow
b) The aforementioned Craig White's so good in slips

Very happy with our continued good ODI form. I really like the batting balance with big hitters Watson and White on both ends of the side.
Our ODI batting looks so much better than our test match batting.

Time we dropped Hussey down to 6 in tests, drop North and play Hughes/Jaques?

Man, that game was a schtonkering! Ponting's catch a ****ing gem.

Interesting to see Olonga so high up, given he was perceived as one of the better bowlers during an era where Zimbabwe weren't as dire as they are now.
I do remember him being rated as the quickest Zimbo but not even amongst their best. A couple of wicket-taking bursts probably wasn't enough to put him above Strang/Streak.

Awesome performance from the Aussies tonight. I missed most of the Brissy ODI with a power-outage, but enjoyed watching tonight. I'm starting a campaign to get Cam White into the top six in the test team, and I don't care that his FC record doesn't justify it, nor that ability in ODIs often proves nothing regarding ability in tests!
Yeah but his FC stats are pretty good anyway!

So impressed with the new ball bowling from Dougeh and Siddle today. Was awesome to watch.
Meanest opening pair going right now.

45% of his runs come in boundaries mate. 78 fours + 28 sixes = 480 runs out of a total of 1078=45%.

That's not really a relevant stat though. I don't want him to turn one six into six singles, I want him to turn six dot-balls into six singles. It doesn't especially matter whether your runs come in boundaries or not. They don't count double if you run them. But I think he could be a better batsman if he worked strike rotation into his game a bit better to go with his hitting.
Dunno why you're banging on about this when it's clear that's exactly what he's been doing for a while now. Last year, he was being bagged for getting bogged down, before that for being a slogger. Seems to have found a bit of a sweet spot and will surely only get better.

Pakistan's incompetence is doing ODI cricket no favours. A fair crowd turned up but it was doubtful if all of those will want to return knowing the impact of a one-sided ODI. In their eyes a one-sided T20 is over so much quicker like the Big Bash debacle the other night.

Worst Pakistan batting display of the last 10 years?
I can think of much, much worse;

2nd Test: Australia v Pakistan at Sharjah, Oct 11-12, 2002 | Cricket Scorecard | Cricinfo.com

Was amazing how many times they were beaten by Warnie's slider that series. In fairness, the conditions were very, very tough; Hayden's ton still an amazing knock in the context of 45 degree/95% humidity weather.

For what it's worth, it's just Pakistan. They've had a team of better players and have fallen far shorter. One example I remember when I was a kid;

http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/65501.html

A star-studded team with Anwar, Inzi, Miandad and Akram did that. Remember hearing at the time there was a tour bus due to arrive for the second half of the game but Pakistan lost the game so convincingly, it was over right before they got there. And the WI took their time winning it too. From memory, wasn't a batting paradise but not a Gabba greentop either.

I mean batting display throughout an entire series, tests and odi. Lets be honest here. None of the pitches have been minefields, and several have been roads. This Australian bowling attack is not a particularly special one either.

Yar. Team issues, tbh. The batters are classy enough, just not gelling. Yousuf the obvious fall-guy come tour's end.

Should open - get rid of Marsh atm. Honestly, it's fair enough he looks like his old man, but the ****wit's channeling his batting, and the game's moved on by 20 years. Watson embarrassed him today, even more than he embarrasses himself with his stupid hair cut.
I agree. Marsh is obviously pretty good but he's one guy I'll just never rate and my opinion will never change. I think the balance of the side (yeah Siddle and McKay did ok today but showed last game they're potentially terrible) would be better with Haddin opening with Watto and a batting all rounder at 7....be it Hopes or Steve Smith.

Agree 100%. Calls him Craig White every single game.

I agree with you here.

I don't see what Marsh offers opening that Haddin couldn't offer. I also think that we could strengthen our batting by having Steve Smith at 7 or our bowling by having Hopes at 7, in both cases without making a huge sacrifice to our strength in one discipline or the other.

I really think that Smith should get a game for Australia sooner rather than later. And Hopes should never have been dropped.

I don't mind Marsh opening at all. I thought he was good last night, he didn't need to go crazy and he supported Watson well.

Haddin also performed great at number 7. The biggest problem with our batting lineup at the moment is Ponting, but he'll come good.

McKay bowled a good line yesterday, I was impressed. Will it be Siddle or McKay who gets dropped for Johnson next ODI?

Also re: Shane Watson, he would definitely make my current World XI.

Agreed. They will come occassion when a bowler in the 5-man attack could get smashed this where Hopes will be useful. So yea i'd drop marsh in a full-strenght ODI team:

Watson
Haddin
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
White
Hopes
Johnson
Lee
Hauritz
Bollinger

Siddle having one of those days where he randomly starts bowling 150kph.

lol Haddin "****ing quick!"
Its the first time he has clocked that for the Australian summer yes. But its not really that random TBF. Throughout 2009 before he got injured in the Champions league, in a spell of bowling he would always get close 150..

If I were a Pakistani fan I would find that quite patronising.

Did Umar Akmal really back away when he was bowled? If so.....
I totally called this during the Basin Reserve test when he was facing Ian O'Brien. He was palpably scared and backing away.

Interestingly it doesn't seem to be something he necessarily does against quick bowling in general, even against quick bowling on quick pitches. It seems to be something he only does when there is also seam movement- otherwise, he trusts his eye I guess.

So pleased that Ryan Harris has been called up. I've been really impressed with his bowling of late.
