Why is Mark Nicholas obsessed with Aamir age?:@
Because if he's 17 it's significantly freakier that he can bowl that quick than if he's 19, 21 or 30 I'd imagine. Not unreasonable I'd have thought, but if it worries you mate we'll have him shut up about it.

It's amazing how Rana Naved gets almost unstinting praise from commentators for being such a canny operator in ODI cricket, yet he's one of the most expensive specialist bowlers in the game's history- believe it or not I'm not expert enough on statsguru to find this out, but he must be damn near the most expensive bowler to have ever bowled, say, 2000+ balls?

Haddin wasted at 7.
Should open - get rid of Marsh atm. Honestly, it's fair enough he looks like his old man, but the ****wit's channeling his batting, and the game's moved on by 20 years. Watson embarrassed him today, even more than he embarrasses himself with his stupid hair cut.

Yeah he's the most overrated guy lol.

Believe this is what I was looking for- should have said excluding Zim and Bangladesh really

Turns out the winner is Mr Sreesanth (quite surprising, I knew he had his detractors, but most expensive ODI bowler ever?) and then, excluding Zim and Bangladesh players, Rana Naved.

Rana Naved the most expensive ever with 3000+ balls though

Interesting to see Olonga so high up, given he was perceived as one of the better bowlers during an era where Zimbabwe weren't as dire as they are now. Also Bravo, another guy who gets called a "canny" bowler in limited overs.

I think with Bravo and Rana, there's this perception that bowling heaps of slower balls and cutters and getting reverse swing makes you a good ODI bowler.

In reality bowling liquorice all-sorts has the exact opposite effect (keeps the batsmen on their toes, but also gives them scoring opportunities). Also, bowling too full isn't a good idea, and both those guys probably do.

Looking at the other end of that list, wow,v Pollock....wonder if many people would accept the argument that he was a better ODI bowler than McGrath???

*not hi-jacking thread*

Admittedly they tend to bowl at the death. Biggest surprise there for me was how high Cairns economy was.

Have always thought Pollock was the best ODI bowler of the 2000s besides perhaps Bond (but he doesn't count due to lack of play).

Yes, but then again, most specialist bowlers in the games history have had to bowl at the death at times, especially quicks. There would be numerous other bowlers on those lists who have had to bowl regularly at the death.

tbh Cairns finished up with a poor ODI bowling record- his average was poor-ish as well. imo that's because he bowled a lot of ODI overs at less than full fitness (by contrast, he really only ever played tests when fully fit or close to fully fit, and hence ended up with impressive numbers).

Interesting to note that the 3000+ balls list goes Rana, Bravo, Sehwag, Pathan.

Couple of things there- first, Sehwag's ODI bowling record is utterly diabolical.

Second, all three of those seamers are medium-fast, pitch the ball up and swing it, and are probably shy of 6-foot tall. Food for though imo.

Didn't Rana have a record number of fours hit off one of his overs in SA a few years back? The last time he toured KOK wanked on about him non-stop but he seemed to go for a lot of runs and rarely took wickets.
