Almost did this, but somehow had the feeling I shouldn't. Would've missed out on Hayden and Dhoni eviscerating Punjab. Great game so far. It's raining now again. ****ing hell. I'm going to bed, cbf anymore.
I am not asking for an answer as to why they are watching it duh .... read my below post properlyBecause their favorite players are in it, and they want to see them play.
and on the side point that you made, yes some of them are watching it because of that but that doesn't make their fav players > the teams! .... come to think of it, these ppl are not even the target market but because IPL is so interesting, they think of a reason to be involved in it just like your reason is I like to see fast bowlers bowlingOriginally Posted by ret View Post

It does for them, and that's why they are watching, or do you not get that?and on the side point that you made, yes some of them are watching it because of that but that doesn't make their fav players > the teams!
Are you on drugs or whatIt does for them, and that's why they are watching, or do you not get that?
In an absolute shock to all of us, Watson has apparently suffered a groin strain shaving this morning, and is on his way back to Sydney where the injury will be tended to by the lovely Lee Furlong.Great revival from RR lately. Getting Watto back soon too, albeit in limited capacity.
Says who? Why should anybody watch the game with what you think it should be in mind? As I said, you're the only one who has had a problem with how people watch the league. The pt is that IPL should be seen for what it is.
I already said that I don't care abt childish arguments like 'i like blah blah so I will do 'blah blah'. it's not how it works. if you want to pee you have to go to a washroom. you can't pee anywhere you want [though in Ind ppl still do that]Says who? You're missing the point: regardless of what the organizers think it is (what they think it is is laughable by the way), the fans follow it for their own reasons. You're deciding whether someone is following it for the 'wrong reasons', which makes no sense.I already said that I don't care abt childish arguments like 'i like blah blah so I will do 'blah blah'. it's not how it works. if you want to pee you have to go to a washroom. you can't pee anywhere you want [though in Ind ppl still do that]
below are some points that says what IPL is for
1. it's the premier domestic tournament in India
2. the teams represents local cricketing associations
3. the teams have icon players as those players identify with the teams
4. all the players whether overseas or local are a part of the team set up. the players are for the teams and not vice versa
It is abt what it is, what it is suppose to be and not what any tom dick or harry wants to perceive it to be. yes, tom, dick or harry of the world can go abt following it for whatever reason they want to follow it for [even many in India follow EPL despite having no connection with EPL what so ever] but following it for whatever reason doesn't give them a right to undermine what IPL is suppose to be and portray it as some kind of a joke [no cricketing format is a joke]
now you can come on and say that IPL is shallow, T20 is shallow, that you follow it for fast bowlers [now who would follow a T20 game for fast bowlers!], it doesn't change anything but only shows that you are following it for wrong reason. And whats hilarious [and ironic] is the fact that despite all the negatives that you listed you still follow it [which shows how important it is]
hope its clear now and I won't have to debate on childish points like 'says who'!
By that logic there might as as many reasons to follow a tourney as there are fansYou're missing the point: regardless of what the organizers think it is (what they think it is is laughable by the way), the fans follow it for their own reasons. You're deciding whether someone is following it for the 'wrong reasons', which makes no sense.
I follow it because I like watching some players, and I think it can be a good thing for Indian cricket, especially if it means the end of one day cricket. I'm sure you follow it for a different reason. And the NZ fans may follow it to simply watch NZ players. You're randomly deciding which reasons are valid.
Sorry, but its just a bit of hit and giggle. Get over it.
Yea, and?By that logic there might as as many reasons to follow a tourney as there are fans
Yea, it does. For them.A kiwi following the tournament for a kiwi player is acceptable [and I have no objection to that do I?] but that doesn't make it a tournament for following kiwi players does it?
Those are both opinions, not statement of fact. It's quite hilarious you trying to pass them off as fact.Nor does it give him a right to say that IPL is a joke [when it is not]. Or someone like you to say that T20 is shallow [when it is not] and thus IPL is shallow!
Yes it is. But fact is from a cricketening prospective with only 10 nations, The IPL should have been a tournament benefiting the entire globe.Aussie, you're way off here.
IPL is a domestic league.
Yea. But where in this jam-packed international are we going to facilitate that tournament??The Champions League will involve all the winners of the domestic leagues (BigBash in Aust, T20 in England, Pro20 in South Africa).].
They IPL had to offer large amounts of money, or else the players wouldn't have played ITFP.Intl players can play in any league, it just happens that IPL is where they are offering a ridiculous amount of money, hence why most intl players are there.
Why?The IPL should have been a tournament benefiting the entire globe.
But we have zero international T20 tournaments, since as you agreed, IPL is a domestic tournament. Players are free not to play in it.One major T20 tournament is enough. The Champions league, ICL aren't need.
You said initially:So than how is IPL different?.
In which you where suggesting England is planning a similar T20 tournament like the IPL.silentstriker said:Yea, I think England is about to start its own (modified) version next year - Pro20 or something.
So what if half of the boards have sanctioned it. That aint the proper sanctioning of a "proper governing body" though is it.They have sanctioned it, half of the ICC boards are involved in it.
Why do people keep maintaining this point??. I am not making the IPL to be something it's not, all i and many others (not really on CW to my knowledge) have argued is what the IPL should be - which is the global brand for T20, because:It's an Indian domestic tournament, you're making it out to be something it's not.
haha, this is getting hilarious!Yea, and?
Yea, it does. For them.
Those are both opinions, not statement of fact. It's quite hilarious you trying to pass them off as fact.
Hah, all of ODI and T20 is shallow, and IPL definitely so.
I don't have any problems with you having that kind of opinion but don't expect others to respect it esp when we see you wasting your time on things that you think are shallow! .... you can try the childish "who says", "my wish blah blah" to support your opinion but as I said don't expect others to take you seriously!Anyway, why is anyone in this thread - there is a Test going on FFS!
