ha ha. well said. even i am a big sachin fan but i rate him behind viv, wg and hutton and on par with hammond, lara, g.chappell and gavaskar. As a Sachin fan I feel ashamed to see Sachin ahead of Viv.
1) Lara
2) Grace
Unashamededly a BCL fanboy and WG in his pomp was literally twice the player (not a fat gag, btw) of his peers.
Hmm. I'd put Lara over Ponting myself, but that doesn't mean there's much in it.The number of people who rate Lara above Ponting must be hundreds of millions, no ?
Sure. I rate Ponting very high myself (not above Lara though). I think many of us happen to dislike Ponting for non-cricketing reasons and at times it shows in our appreciation of one of the finest batsmen of his generation and on of the greatest ground fielders in the history of the game.Hmm. I'd put Lara over Ponting myself, but that doesn't mean there's much in it.
Well, the nature of this voting system essentially means we have to. Personally, I would feel voting Lara, Ponting and Tendulkar all in ahead of the greatest player pre-1900 and the greatest from the 1979-94 era would be an undue modern bias.I wasn't questioning why people rate Lara over Ponting. I was wondering how Grace, a batsman from a totally different era, slots exactly in between them (or any other two contemporary batsmen for that matter). Surely there must be some reason (excluding the personal dislike factor) for such precise sandwiching?
Agree with that, yeah.Sure. I rate Ponting very high myself (not above Lara though). I think many of us happen to dislike Ponting for non-cricketing reasons and at times it shows in our appreciation of one of the finest batsmen of his generation and on of the greatest ground fielders in the history of the game.
I don't think it's all that close TBH.Hmm. I'd put Lara over Ponting myself, but that doesn't mean there's much in it.
