*Official* English Football Season 2008-2009

Watched our game vs Citeh again and got to say after a couple of iffy moments in the first half(cheers Gelson!) the second half was an exhibition.

It's been so long I almost forgot how incredible Cesc was, came in and bossed it straight away. The only downside to this was that we ran everything through him(and rightly so) which kept Arshavin out of the game more than before. Hopefully they can figure something out to get the most out of Cesc and Drey, because they could wreak havoc against any team if on song.

Speaking of which Alex Song is really starting to put in some nice performance for us too lately. Hope he can keep this up; maybe one day he might even fill the void left by Bert and Flamini.

So so pumped for Villarreal. Saw their game against Almeria and they were utter garbage(got ploughed 3-0), hopefully they can carry tha form into Tuesday night.

No offense intended sir, but it really is dire. Particularly the chavvy ones. The more softcore dialects are fine.
Creep :p

I agree that when you hear someone like Carragher you can't help but cringe, and also I always reckon that the likes of him put their accent on. But there are worse accents, see Birmingham for example

Saw the UEFA Cup odds and whilst Citeh are away to Hamburg and therefore Hamburg are the favourites, I thought the odds were tempting for City. Why they play better away from home in the UEFA Cup then in the Premiership I have no idea.

Amazed United have a talent that looks above reserve standard.
Have you heard of Fletcher, McShane, Gibson, Richardson, Evans, Shawcross, Spector, Piqué, Rossi, Welbeck, Bardsley, Simpson, Campbell? Even Chris Eagles is better than "reserve standard". Unless by "reserve standard" you mean "a good Championship player" but to me, reserve standard means League One at best. Should probably be noted that Petrucci is no mug, either - wouldn't be surprised if he plays some first team football for us someday.

We consistently come up with players above reserve standard. Just not always Manchester United standard - and given that standard is about as high as you'll get anywhere in the world, it's not exactly an easy thing to reach.

Sorry, I just get a bit bugged when people say that we're crap at producing players just because we aren't on the same level as Barcelona.

Back on track, Macheda scored 31 goals for me while on loan for a couple of seasons in my FM09 game. Quality player, he still lists my club in his favourites about ten seasons later. Too right.

Haha ugh, Carragher.

Birmingham's not bad in my experience actually. East London is a really horrid one, making Lily Allen singing my least favourite noise ever to exist. Really any accent sounds like **** if it's strong enough (see every soap ever to exist for details) but Liverpool is just a class above for me.

Not that Belfast is much better, being the melty female voice capital of the world.

I'd say that reserve standard in the Premiership should be Championship quality at least, and for a side like United reserve standard should be Premiership standard, simple as really

Strong black-country accent is worse then Scouse, IMHO.

Machedo produced by Lazio surely, like Fabregas was by Barca.......

That's true, he was there 'til the age of 16 as was Fabregas at Barca. We've had him for a couple of seasons though and I think that players develop a fair amount between 16 and 18, so you can argue that we've had influence. For sheer talent, English clubs are at a disadvantage as I believe Barca can bring players in from anywhere in Spain, something that United can't do because of those restrictions where you can only sign players within a certain distance until they turn a specific age.

I can deal with that though, none of those accents even compare to the scouse one for apocalyptic awfulness. Only the Belfast one comes close.
Was more a reference to the origins of said accents hailing from anywhere but the north-west rather than the accents per se.

Agree with grecian tho; black country the worst. The Brizzel/Naarwich "yokel" accent v poor too.

All of them he listed are Prem standard though Eagles included. Maybe Shawcross and Simpson not ready yet but have Prem standard potential from what little I've seen of both. Will see how good Shawcross really is I reckon next season if Stoke stays up and he's still there.

Would they be in your first XI? No. Therefore they are reserve standard.

Was replying to the point that if they're reserve standard for Man Utd then they're Prem standard?

Wasn't having a go at our in ablilty to produce quality players, be at what ever standard you regard as quality. More our recent inability to keep quality players once they reach a level they can make a impact in the first team.

Though some of names you put down as decent players even made me laugh. Some are barely good enough for the championship and league one.
