I doubt Barry will be partnered with Gerrard, I had assumed that, assuming a 4-2-3-1 formation, Barry and Mascherano would be paired in the two, with Gerrard in the middle of the 3. Obviously it's all speculation, but that's what would seem the obvious way to go for me.
Yea exactly.

But what i'm saying though is i just cant believe Benetiz a spanish coach who knows his countrymen have some of the best talent in the world football would want to sell a top-quality ball player like Alonso for an English equivalent in Barry regardless of his recent form for club & country. Keeping them and strenghtening his mid-field surely is the smarter thing.

Look at United we have Hargreaves/Carrick/Scholes/Anderson & yet Fergie can throughout a season fit them in when required.

Actually I agree with Ferguson, Spurs have based their entire allegation on an article in The Sun, which is not the most trustworthy of papers.

I do think Ferguson is a hypocrite for reporting Real Madrid, however that would be due to other instances, Stam, Hargreaves, and so on.

Boss: Ronaldo's staying put

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed he met with Cristiano Ronaldo in Portugal last week to discuss the player's future and insists the winger will not be sold to Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old has been openly coveted by Real Madrid over the last few months with the player himself reported to be keen on a switch to the Bernabeu.

However, at a press conference in South Africa to mark the start of United's pre-season trip, the Reds' boss reiterated the club's stance that Ronaldo is going nowhere.

"The meeting went well - I think we both put across our points of view - where we stand and where the player stands," explained Sir Alex.

"I can say he'll be a Manchester United player next season. That's our stance - he won't be sold."

Many of the tabloids had speculated that comments attributed to Ronaldo over his desire to move to Madrid may have put a strain on his relationship with his manager. But Sir Alex says that has never been the case.

"It’s not a difficult position. I was on my holiday and I was not going to interrupt my holiday, believe me," he insisted after being asked why he had not commented on the matter up to this point.

"I wasn’t panicked because the player is under contract so the strength and the rights are with Manchester United.

"What we have done well is to say nothing. We’ve kept quiet on this matter and kept it private and what I said to Cristiano remains private. I did go and see him last week in Portugal and it was very amicable – there were no problems. That’s where we are and we carry on."

Same here, I found his comments about Daniel Levy particularly amusing.

Claude Makelele has left Chelsea for PSG. Makelele will link up with fellow French has-been Lillian Thuram.

Also, Blackburn have recruited Chilean ‘superstar’ Carlos Villanueva (who?). Supposedly, Rovers wanted Birmingham’s Argentinean loaner, Mauro Zarate but he turned ‘us’ down for Lazio and instead his agent gave us Villanueva - who suspiciously was touted around every club in Spain and got no takers.

Haha, thought much the same thing tbh. Was sure the Ronaldo saga would be solved by the time I got back from my Holiday, sadly I'm wrong. Just make your mind up, ****.
