Cricketer Of The Year
Will be good for NZ if Taylor can buy a bit of flexibility in the bowling options for Vettori here.
Yeah, death bowling is the main reason Gillespie has often been selected ahead of Mason. Mills actually fancies the job but is horrible at it. I'd imagine it'd be Southee and Mills though.Looking again, this NZ bowling-line-up has a cringeworthly lack of death-bowlers. Mills (categorically not one), Southee (on ODI debut), Mason (read Mills), Vettori (spinner, who as-a-rule aren't good death-bowlers) and Styris (probably not, but also probably no worse a bet than anyone else).
Therefore this is not cricket! These boundaries are still far too far in.
Does a damn decent impression of it. I'd be interested to see him have a go at batting left-handed in some nets sometime. Is Pietersen ambidexturous?
It's certainly not as good a quality cricket as it could be with proper boundaries. Therefore this is not cricket!
And on that note, does anyone seriously think Patel or even Gillespie would add less to this Oramless team than Marshall or Hopkins? Hindsight is great, but still...Styris needs to realise that he is not an off spinner. Bowling at 115km/h with an off spinner's release will not work on 99% of ODI pitches. He needs to go back to bowling 125-130km/h just short of a length with subtle variations, and if his knees are no longer up to that, his selection as an allrounder need to be reviewed.
Really wanted Patel in when I heard Oram would be out.And on that note, does anyone seriously think Patel or even Gillespie would add less to this Oramless team than Marshall or Hopkins? Hindsight is great, but still...
