Somerset 626-5, certainly getting on with it but surely they have enough? Or perhaps Langer doesn't feel as if they can bowl Hants out in under a day.

Well Somerset have declared - I take it 654-6 is the season's highest total to date?

And I can't imagine that the difference of 528 between first and second innings totals has often been exceeded, but I'll look into it.

edit: I believe this is the Test record, 551 - but I don't know about the Championship.

McLaren and Arafat - absolute legends. Best no. 8+9 around by my reckoning, they're certainly showing up the likes of Denly, Walker and Stevens at the moment.

Chuffed with that :)

Good win for Essex too, after being 95 behind on 1st innings. Chris Wright scuppered his old team-mates with 71 not out, how often do you see players do that? Having a point to prove concentrates the mind it seems.

But Somerset and Derbys games are heading for draws after both batted on too long this morning.

In the FPT Northants need 97 off 13 overs to beat Leics with O'Brien and Klusener going well. Would have been a good choice for Sky, but unfortunately football hasn't finished yet.

Ha, sign of the times in the Northants - Warwicks game on Sky just now. Maddy edges to O'Brien from Van Der Wath to bring Trott to the crease & now Andrew Hall replaces Louw at the other end.

That's 4 yarpies and 1 Mick & only 1 official overseas player. 8-)

& Hall picks up Westwood as I type; 22/3 now, the Bears in strife here.

Didn't know Leicester had been conquered by the Boers...

Wasn't including Maddy as a saffie, tbf: Van Der Wath, Hall, Louw & Trott are the guilty parties. :p

Actually it's really depressing: there's also Carter (golden blob), Wessells (playing as specialist bat today), Botha, Zondeki (official overseas player for Warwicks), Boje & Klusener in the match. SA are v nearly in the majority....

Right, bit of a brain issue there. Must have thought there were 4 SA, 1 Ireland, 1 overseas makes 6 or summat.

Haven't Trott thrown his lot with England though? But yeah, there are too many teams in the Midlands.

Yeah, played v the Windies in last year's 2020s I think. Suspect O'Brien would probably jump at the chance to play for us if we offered too.

Anyway, Trott leading the rebuilding; 51/3 now.

Allott & Ward now bemoaning the lack of young English-qualified players coming through. Allott saying the two sides represent two extremes. Hmm, given the presence of Carter, Trott & Botha in the Bears line up I don't think it's as clear as all that.

Meanwhile, Klusener is slow-medium nowadays; hardly broke 70mph in that last over. But he's more than made up for that by trying to grow a hlilarious would-be beard.

78-4.

Ha, slow-medium good enough for Powell tho. O'Brien takes a sharp one standing up to Lance. Left the right-hander slightly, but no sort of shot to play to it tho. Looked to be trying to steer it down to third-man.

Brings (yup) another yarpie in Botha to the crease. 88/5.

Kyle Hogg having another decent bowl today, 3/27 off his 10, why cant he translate that into FC games......

Interesting, Scotland lost to Durham on D/L after going off for bad light in the 18th over at 52-5 chasing 182. I thought they had to have 20 overs for a result?

Or maybe just an error on Cricinfo.

Kent gaining a bit of momentum now - an emphatic victory over Sussex and good to see VJ and Denly in particular scoring some runs. Perhaps this season won't be bad afterall...
