Can't believe Yorkshire are being dominated by such a mediocre team like Durham, so dire.
Err have you seen Yorkshi*e's bowling attack lately?

Durham's best 3 bowlers are better than all of Yorkshi*e's bowlers, Plunkett if he was fit would be up there too.

Am thinking that Shreck, Onions, Tremlett and Jones will be fighting it out for one bowling spot in that tour.
Mahmood has been bowling well too. I think all of the bowlers mentioned so far need at least a year more in CC, Tremelett and Jones need to be 'hardened' as they get injured to much and I get the feeling that Shreck, Onions and Mahmood need to hone their skills a little bit more.

Onions may well be next in line. I haven't checked his stats, but my impression is that he seems to have raised his game, and he doesn't seem to be nearly as injury-prone as Tremlett.

That being said, if Jones plays a full season and keeps doing as well as he's started, he'll tour.

You could be right, but then again, there are a plethora of bowlers on the fringes and considering that Broad and Anderson aren't 'givens'. Also, Onions has been in some 30 man squads for England of late, so eyes are upon him (not sure if Shreck has).

What is going on? Take a ticket, wait in line and bowl for England?

Onions and Shreck are not better bowlers than Hoggard and Harmison. Now I can appreciate that Harmison maybe out of the picture because he is a flake with technical issues but Tremlett also needs to be above them as well. As are the obvious injured duo of Jones and Flintoff.

Wait around long enough and everyone will play. What happened to picking the guys they think are the best bowlers?

This theory of having a line of 'cabs off the rank' means guys that have not earned it through performance and are not in the top 4-5 seamers in the Country get games. The revolving door policy is why guys like Saj and Plunkett got games before they were ready or demanded selection.

Well who are the best bowlers then? I'm not too sure about Shreck, but Onions has been performing rather well for the last couple of seasons.

Not what I meant. Or said, really. If Tremlett's fitness record doesn't significantly improve, Onions will deservedly overtake him in the queue if a vacancy opens up, and we may already have reached that point. No-one's said anything against picking the best bowlers, but obviously that entails actually being able to play. If Fred, Jones & Tremlett can't manage that basic criterion, then we ask who's the next in line. However, if those 3 (esp the 1st 2) do somehow regain match fiitness, then no-one's going to be picking Onions ahead of them. Beyond that, I remain unconvinced that Harmy's a better bowler than Onions nowadays.

Nah, I wasnt accusing you of anything. More venting into the ether about how every season a few more bowlers are generally mentioned in contention.

I cant get enough of those 26 yr olds with FC bowling averages of 35. Just what we want

add in that he is neither particularly tall or quick and there isnt much to offer right now apart from being a 'name'.

I just dont get why so many players are named as potential England guys. Unless you have shown a fair bit at CC level or a flash of genius (specialness thats hard to replicate) then why are they even being talked about.

And that's a pretty reasonable vent, tbh. It would help if the buggers stayed fit for more than half an hour though.

Sorry if my response started off overdefensive btw.

TBH, I'd appreciate it if you didn't call Yorkshire that, I find it pretty offensive.

Plunkett, Harmison and Wiseman are all at best a very average, Onions granted is a decent bowler and I haven't even heard of Davies ITBT.

I suppose people are talked about (1) because we hardly ever produce the genuine articles, so we're generally discussing players who are much of a muchness and (2) the genuine articles we have produced are both long term injuries right now, as is the guy whose supposed to be one our better prospects.

Ultimately, most of us are guessing, and we can only go on stats and press pieces.
tbf no one's saying Onions should be in the squad now. The original discussion was who should make the squad to India in 5 months time, and his name came up as a possible, no more, on the assumption that Fred & Jones won't be fit. Maybe that's because he did well out there for the Lions last winter and has started this season pretty well.

Nicholson and Ormond dragging Surrey out of the mire here - innings was in ruins at 75-7.

Could be an interesting day at the Rose Bowl tomorrow if the weather doesn't have the final say.

Your bowling is basically Gough, Bresnan, Kruis and some mediocre fillers.

Plunkett, Harmison, Davies and Onions are a level above those. The only way your lot will have any real quality or something extra is if Hoggard stays out of the England side.
