Certainly in Pietersen's case, missing straight balls when you've been at the crease 52 balls is baffling. I'm equally worried, though, about Cook and Strauss' problems whether they've got a start or not. Cook tends to defend with his bat towards extra-cover all innings, and Strauss' driving in the air off the front-foot on the off-side has been a problem for 2 years now both early on and after getting himself set. I'm wondering if it's ever going to be solved.really.The failure of batsmen of not being able to make the big runs after they are set is a genuine problem which needs to be looked at.
Really surprised you not only missed that original comment on CI, but also KN mentioning it in this thread before I did. Your powers are weak, Obi-wanO0o0o0oh, did he? This I must see...
'Twas Nath TBH. I spotted it but hadn't a clue what he was on about (not reading the CricInfo commentary as I'm watching the game) and was only enlightened by your post.Really surprised you not only missed that original comment on CI, but also KN mentioning it in this thread before I did. I too ignored his post - also had no idea what it was about.'Twas Nath TBH. I spotted it but hadn't a clue what he was on about (not reading the CricInfo commentary as I'm watching the game) and was only enlightened by your post.

Just spotted KiWi's post afterwards. How on Earth did I miss that?I too ignored his post - also had no idea what it was about.
No, Trescothick, Hayden and Sehwag smash considerably worse bowling than this (and Trescothick and Sehwag usually get dropped once or twice in the process, obviously). The bowler, not the batsman, controls the game.Well the fact is we let ordinary players bowl at us, then they come up with great figures.
It shows the greatness of the likes of Trescothick, hayden, sehwag who smash the bowlers making them look ordinary. Yet it's actually bloody fine batting.
Before lunch England were 79/0. At tea, England are 156/5. England have lost 5 for 77.Fairly obvious England winning the 1st session by a mile, NZ winning the 2nd by about the same margin.
I'd venture to suggest England won the first session where as NZ comprehensively won the second.England were clear winners in the 1st session, NZ were clear winners in the 2nd.
That is all.
And NZ are comfortably on top in the game.
He looks a keeper, pun intended.Bloody Ambrose, I was promised he would be dire.
