Nick Pothas is an interesting one. Seems like his given up of being selected for England then.

That's really a shame tbh, i think he was deserving enough to get a chance to play for England but the selectors kept on ignoring him, virtually driving him to a point where now he seems to have given all hope of representing England.

according to this he might get banned from county cricket

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/cricket/counties/hampshire/7279880.stm

wouldn't have though he could face a ban without the other 'English' rebels(for want of a better word) being banned (Law, Nixon, Read, Solanki...) as he is England qualified?
I suppose though you're missing the beginning of the season which doesn't show much dedication to your team. If the youngster comes in and does well, surely he's had it?

Wahey there is a game today on Zee Cinema in the UK Ahmedabad v Chandigarh
Sunday - Tony Greig is there to hype the tournament & he is blaming Andrew Symonds for the troubles in the recent Australia India series. Saying he would have suspended both Symonds & Harbhajan.

Shane Bond looks like he maybe doing some commentating aswell possibly that was one of the reasons he signed aswell as the huge salary of course.

Ahmedabad squad includes Damien Martyn, Jason Gillespie & Heath Streak
Chandigarh squad includes Chris Cairns, Andrew Hall, Daryl Tuffey & Dinesh Mongia.

It will be interesting to see the qulaity of cricket & how seriously the overseas teams take the comp.

Thats not a good thing, Zee Cinema is a subscription based channel so there is no cricket for me or lots of others. I wouldn't subscribe because I don't speak Hindi so I wouldn't get any long-term benefit.

Just watched the first game Ahemdabad beat Chandigarh by 19 runs with main contributions by Wavel Hinds & Jason Gillespie.

Overall I would say the standard is slightly below county 20/20 but better than the Stanford tournament.

As said Wavel Hinds & Gillespie looked decent as did Matthew Elliot & Heath Streak.

Would have been nice to see Damien Martyn bat a little more only lasted 3 balls.

Chris Cairns still looked quite fit which is more than can be said for Andrew Hall who looked like he had been eating too many fry ups.

There didn't seem to be much of crowd there which would be dissapointng for the opening game overall you feel the ICL is going to get left behind once the IPL starts.

Shane Bond is definately the star attraction even though his team wasn't involved today he was constantly hyped. His commentry & studio work was excellent also never thought of him as that charismatic but he definatley is a natural.

IMO, Chris Cairns and Nathan Astle could still be playing as Twenty20 specialists for NZ. It will be interesting to see in a few years whether older players stay on and become twenty20 specialists.

Nice to see the A'bad Rocket notch up a win .... Whats good abt ICL is that it gives an opportunity for cricketers from countries like Zim to make some money .... I m happy that players like Heath Streak will get something for their retirement fund :)

Watched the game yesterday

the delhi team top 6 was made of 2 30+ indians AND 4 foregin players...
and ICL had its motto as to gaive young indians a chance at the highest level :)

^ a promising youngster, who thinks that he can make it to the national team, would not want to play in ICL

Does anyone else love the amateuristic presentation?
I though the production wasn't that bad TBH. A few things let it down hearing background converstaions over the micrphone - especially Tony Greig asking what the stats mean. Interviewing the cricketers whilst play is on going (which I hate during any cricket anyway). Definately not up to Channel 9 or Sky but better than what we get from South Africa. The host is a bit of a babe aswell definately nicer to look at than Nicholas or Gower.

Looking forward to todays game Delhi v Mumbai - Astle, Bond, Attapattu, Vander Wath, Tino Best, Kasprowicz are the main stars on show unfortunately Lara is injured or would we could have had Bond bowling to Lara.

Hmmmmmm, she is a bit of a fox. I think the coverage is quite good as well. Way better than the old school DD rubbish we used to get although maybe not up to the standard of ESPN or Channel Nein.

Mumbai uniforms are terrible too. The bright orange and yellow along with black are a real eyesore.

I know the uniforms are a bit of shocker - Thought Bond should have got that LBW 1st ball looked plumb to me.

Might've been going down leg, but looked dead at first sight. Jadhav looks so much a different player to when I saw him play Test cricket. Doesn't look troubled by Bond's pace at all unlike Jayantha.

I love how you can hear just about every Pothas sledge with absolute clarity. No turning stump mics down here.

EDIT; Mike Whitney as a pundit is hilarity though. Shouldn't have left Who Dares Wins IMO.

He is so effeminate the voice, the perm, the shirts -very funny, it also seems to take him about 5 minutes to get each sentance out.
