Indian Cricket League thread

Even if the play is just as boring, or worse (which is impossible) than an ODI, it would still be miles better considering it is less than half as long.
Whilst I'm happy that some retirees are adding to their super and glad that some underpaid Indians are finally making a buck, I actually found it quite depressing to watch.

Couple of the young Indians showed good potential but will be ostracised for the time being because of their involvement in matches no-one is watching

Also found it ironic that Tony Greig can comment on the ICL and Test Matches whilst Shabe Bond has been royally shafted for his participation in only one

This thread has mentioned the quality of the kit design. If you have not seen them, here they are.

God knows what they were thinking. Im rapidly developing a soft spot for this tournament but its hard to love something this ugly :)

Looks like someone's six year old kid had a vomit explosion. The only halfway decent one is the white kit used by the Jets, and even that is just 'OK' at best. What in the world is up with the pink/purple though?

Looks like a KC and the Sunshine Band reunion concert.

Anyone know if there's any TV coverage of this in Australia?

There has been an issue with the prices increasing this time around.

They are now Rs.200 and Rs.500 compared to being earlier Rs.100 and Rs.150.

Empty stadiums are a curse. Make them free, give them to school children, pay people. Just dont try and sell a new product that appears unpopular. Especially as its a pretty decent product when you look at it
Domestic Ranji/ROD/Duleep/Deodhar matches are free to watch! And they'd still have better cricket than this, without the internationals.

The one big failure of ICL, which is why the ICL is a failure, would be its lack of salesmanship, sale-ability, whatever we can call it. They simply can't convince anyone, or as someone says, break the bank. Nobody is willing to listen. Even the poorest of domestic players, with the slimmest of chances of national selection, will stay far from here, as that distant India cap is far more valuable than a few bucks thrown around by a media baron struggling to keep his sports channel afloat.

BCCI's 'duplicate' is a thousand times bigger and better than the 'original', and forms a part of a larger ring- the Champions' League.

We've spoken about the cheerleaders, the production, the commentators, the on-screen display and even Mayanti. What do the mascots look like? Last time, it was hilarious-
  • Chennai- Someone looking like a Rajnikanth cartoon
  • Kolkata- Tony the Tiger or something
  • Chandigarh- Lippy or some cartoon Lion
  • Mumbai- I forget- maybe someone in a Maharashtrian costume?
  • Delhi- Someone looking like Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story
  • Hyderabad- I haven't seen

Let's talk more about Mayanti. Who can the BCCI offer that can compete with her? I eagerly await their response.

I think they are all already pretty much free. They are priced at 200 rupees ($4-$5 USD). So they aren't making much money off the tickets - in which case you're right - might as well give them away free and allow people to come and watch.

Rs. 200 is not a small amount. It is higher than the price for a movie ticket in the best multiplexes in town (Rs. 100-150 is the usual price with 'Gold seats' for Rs. 300-500 at the movies). Ranji tickets in Kolkata are at Rs. 5 for a day for instance.

Agreed that they should offer the tickets (a major portion at least) for free or a very nominal price to attract crowds in the beginning at least.

I have watched 2 of the 3 games and as you mention Goughy, the standard of the actual cricket played is not bad at all.

Whatever it takes!!!
Cant believe this thread didn't come up again. The finals were absolute crackers. Hyderabad Heroes doing the unthinkable and putting it past the Lahore Badshahs two games in a row, the second final going down to a bowl-out. :)
