Intercontinental Cup, 2007

my vote for a sticky - i looked for it for this tour but obviously didn't dig far enough.

Varaiya is a nice bowler and has a lovely knack of often getting wickets in quick succession.
He has done it now against at least 4 of the Associates be it in ODIs or IC. A player who should really come into his own in th zonal comp.

Kenya's 2nd innigs against UAE looks pretty disastrous. About time to bring back Kennedy Obuya for Tony Suji.

Yeah Kenya need to give some other young specialist batsman a shot cos Tony Suji harldy ever turns his arm over anymore and can hardly buy a run, Mishra when he gets some cricket back in him will probably walk straight back into the middle order whereas other options like Peter Kituku, and Malhar Patel, or even Ken Migai and probably should grab the opportunity that the zonal league provides with both hands to make a case for themselves.

257 runs required for UAE, with nine wickets in hand.

Arshad Ali already out though, and Khurram bowled his heart out (25.2-10-26-4). Hopefully he gets some nice rest, scores 72, and UAE lose by 35 runs.

Talking to the selectors, Mishra would have walked into the team had he bothered to attend training for even a couple of weeks. Ditto Kennedy Obuya, though in his case he only got back into the country from his professional stint in Aus a week before selection.

I'm not sure Kituku et al are quite ready - after a season in the zonal league we should get a much better idea. Once they have had a chance to prove themselves against the best in the country, I wouldn't be surprised if there are a couple of new faces in the team come June.

Yeah the Mishra thing is really peculiar. One minute he was off to college next he wasn't then apparently he couldn't be reached, (pardon me for those who wouldn't understand but he seems to have become Kenyan cricket's Denis Oliech) still he is quality batsman with age on his side and it would be to Kenya's advantage. Anyway I digress, brilliant effort from Jimmy Kamande getting an unbeaten 62 off 160 deliveries, If the bowling fires tomorrow kenya still have this game won.

Except that Oliech still played football, whereas as far as I have been told from several reliable sources, Mishra has played precious little cricket since the 20-20 WC. His attitude was disappointing - turning up to training the day the squad was to be selected, then not the day after when he had missed out, but the others who had were still helping the team prepare.

A shame because when i interviewed him last year after the WCL, he pretty much said he would do whatever was needed for the team. Hopefully it gets sorted out - he is too good a talent to be allowed to go to waste.

Well, Kenya are now at least back on top, but have played more games than the other teams who are still in contention.

Ireland away to UAE will be a crucial match for the Irish to look for 20 points. I'm sure though their hosts will be itching for a home win and will pull out all stops.

Now that the Intercontinental cup is about to take a month long break this thread is gonna dissapearand I feel pity the fool (most probably me) who will have to dig it up again when Ireland play UAE.

STICKY IT NOW!

Namibia are slowly putting together a very good national side.

Particularly now that some of the elderly statesmen are being replaced by some of the really good kids coming through.

Still waiting for some of those indigenous players to make it though.

We could have an All-African Intercontinental Cup final.

Even thoough its almost too late fro the Ireland/UAE match I figured I would dig up this ol' gal again and then go on to ask that it be made a sticky...

I doubt that's going to happen, if the ICC aren't interesting in the associates then why would the die hard elitists listen.

although we'll continue to live on, the determined cricket fanatics in the unrecognised world. No other sport in the world has a system quite like cricket were your history and income matter more than your talent, determination and like of the game.

Money Talks and if someone can come up with a hair brained solution to resolve the fact thaat we have very little of it then we can get heard.

Terrible though that is with money, I mean FIFA doesn't say to a team "you can't compete because your poor and unskilled".

Also Fifa does not limit how much say each country has in its ruling council according to how far along the game has moved their otherwise Brazil, Germany, Italy, England, Uruguay, Argentina, France would be the 'Test nations on the grounds that they have monopolised all the World Cups that have ever been played

Very convincing win for Ireland v UAE. It is looking very congested at the top now with any of Ireland, Kenya, Namibia or Netherlands in with a shout of the minor premiership. Kenya perhaps have the toughest run home as they are still yet to play the Eurpoean nations, 2 of which will be away. Namibia with all 4 remaining games at home should be feeling pretty confident.

I suspect Namibia will end up regretting not cashing in on batting points, but Kenya will have to hustle this summer to make the final

Personally I Think the Dutch are out of it, along with Scotland and I still think Namibia are going to find it difficult to beat Ireland and Scotland even if it's in Windhoek.

I Happen to think that anything over 90 points total at the end will see you into the final.

Potential maximum points available

Ireland-129 points
Kenya-126 points
Namibia-128 points
Scotland-106 points
Netherlands-114 points
Canada-86 points
UAE-43 points
Bermuda 66 points

I think you underestimate Namibia. They looked a very polished and professional set up when I saw them in Sharjah and with their young players coming through well and the team getting plenty of FC experience, they will be more than a handful at home. Note also that the European teams do not have a happy history on the whole in Africa.

No Doubt they do but I think they rely too much on Snyman making a big impact, If Ireland and Scotland can squeeze him then I think they'll be unable to match us. Home advantage didn't help them in Division two of the WCL, they bottled it.

If the weather right now in the UK persists through the summer then I can foresee a situation where Scotland miss out on points entirely because of the rain. Anyway the I am sure Namibia are more than a one horse team and someone else could well play a blinder.
