dont think the second new ball will be important.. doubt it will swing
but hopefully the extra bounce will help

So Prince how long is Symonds is your avatar? I'm going to make the call now that he is only keeping Watson's place warm if/when Watson comes back from injury# 34. I don't think I rate his bowling too much and his innings and good on him for getting the fifty gave him the luxery to play with a big massive total on the board.

VVS Laxman is quite good at the cover drive itbt.
Definitely, but not in the technically orthodox fashion that's been mentioned here. Vaughan, Kallis, Tendulkar, Jayawardene, Atapattu etc. have very orthodox techniques when playing front foot shots, and the cover drive exemplifies this best.

Laxman, Ganguly, Gibbs, Ponting, Martyn, Lara etc. all play awesome cover drives to watch as well, but in a much different fashion. Less orthodox, and if often got them in trouble at the same time if they weren't in good form (Gibbs and Ganguly in particular).

If Sangakkara is fit and Atapattu isn't sent home, who would drop out, Silva?

I'm happy eating my humble pie about Vandort.

It'd be harsh. He's kept extremely well in this match and he's actually batted comparatively well on this whole tour as well. But I'd still be leaning that way.
Considering that they would drop Malinga and were strongly considering dropping Vaas ( ) so IWT that harsh calls would be like water under a bridge for them (Sri Lankan selectors).

Depending on how they bat in the second innings, I'd say it will be a toss up between Chamara Silva and Thilan Samaraweera. The selectors seemed fairly intent to pick Sangakkara as a specialist batsman in the past, and I doubt too much will have changed.

**** I love Ian Chappell. Great man, love hearing his opinions, even if he can be grumpy.

Agree wholeheartedly with a lot he's just said.
