The Battle of the Commentators

It's tough to know which way to go here. As I said when Arlott came up in round one I never actually had the pleasure of hearing one of his commentaries contemporaneously, but would recognise his mellow west-country burr as soon as I heard it. He's rated as the best by many respected cricketing sages and it is kind of arrogant to disregard what has gone before one's own time on the basis one hasn't experienced it first hand.

Against that Boycott is right up there with the best in the field still after more than two decades behind the mike. His voice is just as identifiable as Arlott's, if somewhat less easy on the ear. He speaks with a hard-earned authority and certainly isn't afraid to voice an opinion.

Hmm. I'm going for Arlott, as I suspect Sir Geoffrey will have the weight of public opinion on his side, but it's an arbitrary call really.

Fix.

This should be the final.

Boycott is my favourite. The best cricketing mind Ive heard and expresses it in ways even a simpleton could understand.

However, Arlott has the voice and the phrasing that makes him supreme.

Cant believe Im doing this but For: Arlott

Surely not comparing the natural broadcasting genius of Arlott with the ranting Boycott. Ask the great Geoffrey to do ball by ball on the radio (as a commentator not just a summarizer) and he be lost.

Arlott

I know that I've temporarily banned myself from this forum, but I simply couldn't let that one go. Arlott (to whom I'm giving my vote) did some fielding in a first-class match once.
Eh? What do you mean 'banned yourself'?

Thanks for the info about Arlott though. I have to say, I never knew that!
