The Battle of the Commentators

Days of Grace

International Captain
For Gower Currently the best British commentator IMO

I'm sure Pommie will be an excellent commentator in the years to come, but you would have to give it to Gower at the moment IMO.

Chubb

International Regular
Pommie. Spoken to him on Facebook, really nice guy. Very good commentator too. I find Gower quite dull and he is better as a presenter.

BoyBrumby

Englishman
Going for Gower despite him being primarily an anchor nowadays. Has an old empire officer-class charm about him and does know his onions too.

Pommie has shown some good early form though; thoughtful and articulate.

Gower wins. 15 - 4 his current lead, Mbangwa will find that unassailable. Will Gower have such an easy ride in the next round?

Battle Seven

John Arlott vs Geoff Boycott

The Form Book: Arlott drew a tough first round draw, coming up against dour Yorkshireman Fred Trueman and West Indian Donna Symmonds. He drew a steady lead over Trueman to hold him off. Boycott blew another tough draw - Trevor Bailey and Michael Slater - away, comfortably sailing into round two. Can Arlott upset the bookies and oust Boycs from the competition?

John Arlott

Playing Career: None to speak of
Commentating Pedigree: Commentated for the BBC for 34 years after initially starting in Radio as a freelance producer on poetry readings. His lyrical, poetic language and Hampshire accent saw him described once as "the sound of the summer"
Other: * Stood as a Liberal candidate for Epping in 1955 and 1959
* Outspoken critic of Apartheid
* Author of several cricket biographies.
* Occasional commentator on soccer

Geoff Boycott

Playing Career: Obsessively dogged top order English batsman playing over 100 test matches for over 8000 runs in test matches in the 1960s, throughout the 70s and into the early 80s.
Commentating Pedigree: Well known for speaking his mind, he has commentated for virtually every media outfit that takes cricket in the UK - from the BBC to Channel 4 to Sky Sports to TMS and TALKSport.
Other: * Organised the 1982 rebel tour to South Africa
* Convicted in 1998 for hitting Margaret Moore, a former lover.
